I am very very new to gardening so need some help with where I went wrong for my string of hearts plants!

I have two string of hearts I bought, my first ever plants, and I thought it’d be nice to put them under a grow light in this hutch I have. After a week, they started getting really soggy and the leaves would break off. Is it too much light? Lack of air flow? I watered whenever I could fold the leaves like a taco like I read, so I’m not sure if it was too much water. I took them out and placed them on a window sill. But wanted to know if my idea to have my plants in this little hutch is a bad one. I would post a pic of the string of hearts currently but all of their stems entirely broke off so it looks like a pot of dirt right now. Hoping I can save them.

Just bought a house and want to start a native plant front yard but need some advice!

I have included a very rough look at how we are wanting our yard to be set up lol. But we have a pathway that goes up to the front door, then we were thinking of doing rocks in the middle and having four separate sections of native plants. We were wanting a 1-2 big plants (larger circles) surrounded by 3-4 small ones, but we are getting stuck on which ones would work best together based on watering needs. There are just so many options and we were hoping for advice from some people who know much better than we do! Our yard is also on a slope, so any plants would have to be okay on a slope (but looks like most Coloradan plants do well on slopes so it doesn’t seem to be an issue).
