Do I really need surgery?

F27, no idea how this happened, doctors keep asking me when I was injured and I genuinely don’t know. The pain that made me get this checked out in the first place has been there since I was a tween. Never played sports or been in an accident or anything like that.

Surgeon made this seem very urgent and frightening, wants to replace my disc basically ASAP. He agreed I could try physical therapy first, but sort of implied I’d need the surgery eventually anyway, and that I’m one accidental fall or bump from paralysis. Is that true?? Is it really that urgent?

Thank you, I don’t know much about any of this so any and all advice is welcome.

Grandma experiencing post-surgery delirium, who/how do I ask for help?!

My grandma (F79) had hip surgery from a re-break last weekend. She hit her head HARD ENOUGH TO PUT A HOLE IN THE WALL, apparently, when she fell this time.

Her official contact person for all medical stuff is her husband, who is ALSO elderly, has memory issues, very poor communication skills, and most importantly, has been ABSENT through a ton of this and keeps going home. My dad (her son, M56) and I (grandchild, F27) have been told very little about whatever’s happening behind the scenes, but when we visited on Tuesday (5 days ago) 2 days after the surgery, she seemed GREAT. High spirits and completely lucid.

She was transferred to a rehab center a few hours after we saw her. We came to visit her at the rehab center today and she has had a very frightening, sharp decline in cognitive clarity. She is hallucinating people and situations, confused, and most concerningly, very frightened. She said she genuinely thought she was going to die last night because she didn’t know who the people in her room were or why they were there.

She has had age-expected confusion and forgetfulness a few times, but does NOT have Alzheimer’s or dementia. This type of anxiety and paranoia is extremely out of character for her. We also have no clue if anyone mentioned to her care team that she hit her head so hard when she fell a few weeks okay, we’re worried about concussion.

As dad and I are not her official contact person at her post-surgery rehab facility, how do we get her help? Do I just go up to any nurse and let them know I’m worried? Is there some way I can challenge who her contact person is without causing a big upset with her husband?

Any advice at all is greatly appreciated. I’ve never seen her like this and it was such a sharp, sudden decline, it’s very scary. Thanks for reading.

Pet snail questions!

Hi, I’m interested in keeping pet snails for the first time, and I was wondering about a few things before I start:

  1. Is it okay to keep multiple kinds of snails in the same enclosure, especially of different sizes? I’m thinking about getting one slightly larger friend, and then a few tiny ones :)

  2. What is the expected lifespan? Do different kinds have longer lives?

  3. What sort of health issues do I need to watch out for?

  4. How can I prevent mold in the enclosure? I’m worried about the humidity levels.

  5. How difficult is keeping aquatic species vs land species? Would water snails need a filter and PH balances like fish, or do they take care of the cleaning / cycling themselves?

  6. Does anyone have recommendations on a good breeder for land snails? I’m in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA, if that helps.

Thank you all so much!

New apartment, this is along all the windows… Is it what I think it is?

Help me pick for my new apartment!

Hey there! Looking for sound bar / system recommendations with a budget of about $500 total.

I’m new to this so I’m not sure what details are needed, but here’s everything I thought might be relevant:

Uses will be film watching, gaming (PS5, not sure if that makes a difference for set-up?) and music of many genres.

My living room will be about 170 square feet.

Television is a BRAVIA 4K VH22.

Not much room for anything besides the soundbar + maybe one other piece?

Thanks so much!
