Disappointing...

I was hoping to get much closer to 100%. Must try harder!

Doremi mispressing

Just bought a 1981 (I think) copy of Doremi Fasol Latido. Side two has the right label, right pressing. Side one is bloody Whitesnake! I'm not quite sure what to do with it. Destroy it, for the greater good of humanity?

Kallax-Fi (sort of)

Does anyone else use Kallax-size units for their hifi? My lounge is pretty small so I have to make the most of the space. This is an Articulum unit with vent holes bored in the back: they're made to order in Yorkshire (https://articulum.co.uk/product-category/shelving-storage/). Nothing gets very warm.

The Leak CD transport is new to me, and it's a bit of a revelation. The Lyngdorf amp is end-to-end digital, so no need for a DAC.

Laser alignment checks

Someone recently showed how they used lasers to check arm alignment. Whoever it was, thank you! I bought a cheap laser level on Amazon (£30) and it is SO much easier to see what's going on.

Also great for checking azimuth. Plus, lasers are cool.

Amazing deal on Thorens TD-1601

I ordered this on Tuesday, arrived from France today from Homeciné Solutions in Paris. It was £1905 including all import costs.

I really wanted a turntable that was fully automatic, but this is a good compromise. The build quality is excellent: for dropped washer reasons I had to take the plinth off and the interior is a work of art.

I don't have anything to compare it with, other than a 1978 Technics SL-1301. This sounds better. It's hopefully the last table I buy!

Budget turntable riser

I made this for about £40. The wood was cut to order and supplied with the veneer edging. The legs are for kitchen units, and they're adjustable. That makes it easy to get your turntable level (unlike my photograph).

Bookshelf speakers in a tight spot

I've got the upgrade itch! I'm looking for speakers for my lounge, which have to be close to the wall, and in a bookcase. Not ideal, I know, but I'm not moving house!

Pretty much settled on a Lyngdorf streaming amp with DSP, and my speaker shortlist at the moment is:

- Proac DB1 or DB1R

- Spendor Classic 4/5

- Harbeth P3 ESR XD

I also use a subwoofer, a BK Electronics 10-150-Gem.

Has anyone compared these speakers? Which are the most forgiving for lack of space around them?

Finally happy with my Deco X50 and nodes

I've been fighting with my Deco system for months. It was unstable, the 5G router kept crashing, and lots of devices failed to connect.

Well, turns out I was asking too much. My X50 now manages the mesh, and a Cudy P5 does the routering. Finally, we have good wifi! It's stable, everything is quick, and I now get 200mbps down and 50mbps up. That's pretty decent in our rural location from 5G: the P5 is so much better at it.
