Mayor Wu: you’re at the Speedway for an event. I encourage you to walk up the block to look at what used to be a separated bike lane.

You’ve mentioned that you’re unaware of any that have been removed. Luckily, you can survey the results of removed infrastructure with a 2 minute walk.

Every. Single. Day.

We need physical separation returned to Western Ave.

At least it wasn’t a driving school car this time.

Been in IT more than half my life… considering a change.

So I’m coming up on 35, happily married & living in Boston. Been in IT since 13 y/o, full time in the space since 19.

I have climbed into leadership roles and am well compensated for the work I do, particularly as I have no formal post-secondary education, degree, etc. Its honestly a sweet situation.

But here’s the thing… I never intended to take this career path. Growing up I always thought I’d go into medicine — probably not an MD, but something like APRN or similar. And IT just isn’t **fulfilling**.

About 1.5yrs ago my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. Through all of the hundred or so appointments I accompanied her to, the multiple surgeries, etc… I started to get the itch to revisit pursuing a career change into medicine… the path I always thought I would take.

Anyway… background aside:

* for those who have made a similar career change, would you do it again?

* if you were trying to go from no BA > working in medicine (probably emergency/trauma or oncology) what would be your path? Direct entry BA/MA? Another route? (I have savings for 3-4yrs of full time study)

* if you could start all over on your career path, what would you change?

* are there any questions that I should be asking myself?

Appreciate the input!!

How do you look up a Somerville 311 request?

Hi data nerds of Somerville, hoping for some help:

Been playing with Somerville's 311 open data and hit a wall. The dataset seems to only have category-level info for each request along with the request #, location, current state (open/closed/etc), and similar info... but its missing the important stuff -- the actual issue subject, body/description, updates/comments from the city, request history, etc.

I tried figuring out how to use the numeric request ID to pull up the actual portal page but unfortunately was unable to figure out any way to associate request ID with URL. Those pages are public, but the string in the URL seems to be a UUID internal to the ticketing system.

It's super straightforward in Cambridge and other cities using SeeClickFix for ticketing... but Somerville's QScend ticketing system seems to be pretty locked down.

Am I missing something obvious?

Smooth XC singletrack?

Yes, this is rocky rooty New England and there will always be some chunk.

But I’ve got a hankering for a weekend of low impact XC riding on some nice smooth dirt singletrack.

Willing to drive 3-4hrs to scratch this itch for some REALLY nice riding. Even better if it’s a longer route (I.e. Velomont Trail, etc)

Where would you go?

Alas, it is not.

If driving school instructors are comfortable parking in bike lanes, what are they teaching their students?
