LG C2 42" OLED + Decklink MiniMonitor 4K + Banding

Hi all,

I want to preface that I'm not a professional colorist, but I really don't know where to go for advice / feedback at this point.

I'm using the LG C2 42" OLED connected to my Mac Studio the Blackmagic Decklink MiniMonitor 4K in a Thunderbolt PCIe box. I got this back in 2022 to use as a poor-man's reference monitor.

I calibrated it with Calman Home. Maybe a year or so after I started using it, I realized that the monitor had quite a bit of banding. I first noticed it when grading a shot of a sunset from a wedding. I thought it was my footage at first. I checked it on my MacBook M1 Pro, and LG IPS screen, and no banding was present.

I honestly had to ignore it. I didn't have the time to troubleshoot. Here we are, 4 years later and it's really starting to bother me.

Here are the things I've done that make my believe it's a panel issue and nothing to do with my Resolve / Decklink or HDMI settings.

I created a short video using the grayscale gradient in Resolve. The image just pans left to right. I exported it as an H265 10bit file, and confirmed no banding on the export with my IPS and MacBook Pro (XDR Mini LED). I loaded that onto a USB stick, and put it into the TV. The banding is very apparent on the TV.

I've done all of the normal things: Pixel Cleaning multiple times, sharpness to 0, all processing off, HDMI Deep Color on etc. I even reset the entire TV to make sure my calibration LUT from Calman Home wasn't wonky.

My question is...Has anyone else experience this, and is it just the way it is? Did I get a bad draw in the panel lottery and should I just move on? Is there anything else you can think of that I haven't tried?

Photos obviously make it look worse than it is, but you get the idea.

Thanks!

Air 4 Pros vs XREAL One Pro?

Has anyone here compared the Air 4 Pros to the XREAL One Pro?

My main use is for flying my drone, but if I'm going to spend several hundred dollars, I'd like to be able to enjoy them as portable "theatres" as well. When traveling, or just at home.

I have done quite a few mods to the Air 4 Pros. I got the Jawbreaker nose pad, I got fully blacked out covers from someone on Etsy, and I even put Croakies glasses retainers on them to pull them closer to my face. After all of these mods, the image is looking pretty damn good, corner to corner. Though, I still find myself needing to adjust them a bit while using them. They also are not very comfortable with the glasses retainers pulling them into my face.

All this said, I'm really curious if the ability of the XREAL One Pro to move the screen in space would solve all of these issues. I honestly find the Air 4 Pro's screen to be almost too big. I can barely look around to see the entire scene. The image itself is incredible, and the color is really nice, so I'm curious how the XREAL One Pro compares in that regard? Being able to move the screen a little further away so I can really see the whole image at all times, would be great.

Thanks.

Hey u/tom-realwarp, I'm trying to see if I can watch streaming TV while using RealWarp, because it's the only way I can really "resize" the screen.

I noticed that all streaming platforms output a black screen with audio, but this does not happen when watching content without RealWarp running. Is that because when RealWarp is running, the Mac thinks it's "recording" the screen? So Netflix etc notices this and won't output an image?

On another note, I noticed when looking side to side, the screens on my left and right end up being "crooked" instead of flat. The left more than the right for some reason.

Thanks,

Dan

Has anyone used Croakies Glasses Retainer (or similar) to help with a tighter fit to the face? I feel like I get the best image quality when I press the glasses against my face, and I thought…there must be a better way. This seems like a logical solution, but I don’t see it talked about much. You could adjust the strap in the back until it’s a tight fit.

Hey all,

I'm trying to watch a movie on my iPhone with the Air 4 Pro's, but have my audio come through my bluetooth headphones. It seems to be forcing it through to the headphones. Is there a way to force the audio to my headphones instead?

I just got my Rx Inserts from VR-ROCK. They are definitely the correct rx, and overall very clear, but I'm not sure if they're fitting my RayNeo Air 4 Pro's just right? The insert was hard to press into the nose clip, but I did get it to lock-in (I think). I find myself still struggling to get all edges clear. Really only noticeable when there is text on screen though. Any tips other than the obvious nose-clip adjustments? Anyone else here use VR-Rock?

Overall, the experience is pretty great. I mostly wanted to get these for flying my drone, and it's incredible for that. Watching TV shows / movies / playing video games is a bonus.

I just came here to vent. Second time with tennis elbow in the last 3 years. It’s just such a drag having to mod so many workouts.

I’m trying to pick some moves that leave it alone and dial those in, like bench, deadlifts, strict press etc. But I do miss my strict pull-ups…

Alright, enough complaining. Anyone else go through this and what were some of your favorite workarounds for things like pull-ups, cleans, snatches, KB swings etc.

Hey all, our little man at TLPO about 4.5 weeks ago. We are still giving him Trazodone 3 times a day (every 8 hours), and Gabapentin 2 times a day.

No matter how many times my vet says the meds are harmless and I shouldn’t worry about the duration I give them to him, I feel like I want to be more conservative.

I know it’s crucial to keep him calm for 8 weeks while he heals, so the Trazodone makes sense. But how did you all m low when it was fine to stop the Gabapentin for pain?

Thanks!
