Posted my dog a few weeks back thinking he could be bmc, was told to order an Embark test, the wait is finally over! The shelter was right about the mountain cur part! Knew he definitely had some pit in him, but the other breeds caught me off guard especially basset hound and border collie 🤣 here’s some last pictures of sweet handsome lancer, such a cool mix :)

After reading up on BMCs I’m genuinely confused, how can we call the breed purebred? Not trying to start argument, but genuinely want to open this up for discourse because I think it’s very undefined. Are there only three different breeders to obtain a true “BMC”? We know embark is the only database that shows bmc, is it true they only test for Ladner? Then in that case could it be there are other bmc’s whose results show as mixes because they are from one of the other breeder families? Then in that case how can we really discount them from being bmc. To me, the breed seems only categorized by general appearances largely by behavior, traits, and characteristics. I know this is how all breeds must have started at some point but there seems like much more variability in the bmc breed. Just looking for clarification and a different perspective, preferably based in fact if possible.
