How to make tea that functions like a cup coffee?

Hello! Ok I've got a bunch of great tea in the house but I've been missing the way you can just get out of bed, make a cup of coffee, in 10 minutes you've got a nice concentrated wakeup with not an excessive volume of liquid to drink. What tea fills this niche? Matcha? Boil some shou?

PSA: Hong Kong stored puer from Sun Sing Tea

I tried something traditionally stored from Liquid Proust and was instantly hooked but then disappointed that Yee On Tea has not been shipping to the US. With some research I found out that Sun Sing Tea is shipping to the US via DHL. I paid a ton for airmail but will inquire next time if there might be a slower/affordable option. Be aware that you'll get a tariff bill from the shipper for ~10% of the purchase price.

Anyway, the tea is super funky and everything I hoped for. I'm drinking the 2003 7582 for HKD 1500/USD 190. They kindly added a few samples that I requested. Highly recommend! I won't post a link but you can find them easily.

Did I get a tourist cake?

I bought the pictured cake at a little shop in Taipei for NT3000/US100. The owner brewed a few teas for my wife (Chinese speaking) and myself (not at all). This sheng puerh is supposedly from 2004 although nothing in the packaging actually said so.

Here’s the thing… when the owner brewed “this” tea in the shop it tasted great! Now I’ve gone through almost half the cake and I have achieved tolerable at best. Not much flavor. It looks like all broken leaves and stems but I’m not experienced with old sheng puerh and don’t know what is normal.

What‘s going on here? The boss seemed like a great guy, he was really nice to us and spent an hour or two hanging out, so I don’t want to think he pulled a fast one...
