Induction questions

For those who needed to take fasting insulin and had to be induced at 39 weeks, what was your experience like? I'm feeling very increasingly anxious about being induced and im not sure what to expect. I'll be with an ob I've never met. Did you need to be hooked up to an IV the whole time? Continuous fetal monitoring? Did you want to eat during? We're you allowed to eat during?

I'm worried about having a very long labor, getting exhausted and then needing a c section. I already have had problems with getting shaky/weak when I don't have food before exercise, and i don't see how clear liquids/jello would be helpful at all.

I'm on the east coast USA for reference.

Finally a fasting number in range!

34 weeks. I got put on nighttime insulin for persistently high fasting numbers a little over 2 weeks ago. Since then theyve remained mostly stable-- a few 99, mostly in the 105 range. Ive been stressed at the steadily increasing dose with no changes. Last night i went up to 25 units--this morning, I woke up and tested my sugars in bed and got a 90!!!!!!! The lowest since i got diagnosed 5 weeks ago!

I can't believe how much seeing a "good" number has improved my day!!

FTM question

I'm due in September and am excited to be able to baby wear soon! I was gifted a stretchy wrap and a linen ring sling at my baby shower, but I'm feeling a little bit overwhelmed with how to use them. Is there any way to practice wrapping before the baby is here? Or is it really something that you have to wait until baby is born to start doing?

I also have my eye on woven wraps because I'm plus size with broad shoulders and often have a hard time being comfortable with backpack straps, but I'm thinking that's something i can wait on until after the baby is born. Is that a fair assumption?

Random win!

I got a bag of freebie things for expecting moms a few weeks ago and one of them was one of those neck fans that almost look like headphones. I ended up using it today when I was organizing in our upstairs room, and omg! It worked so well!

Anyway, they're worth a try if you're melting in the heat like me.

Feeling starving all of a sudden

I'm 33 weeks 2 days, and on 20U of lantus overnight to help with fasting numbers. The last few days I have been SO HUNGRY even though I've been eating the same types/amounts of foods. Have other people experienced this after starting insulin? Is this just because I'm later in my pregnancy?

Injecting issues Lantus pen

Hiiii lovely fellow GD-ers!

I am starting some long acting overnight insulin and injected myself tonight. I'm having issues though....i followed directions and counted to 10 slowly as I injected, but when I withdrew the needle a ton of the insulin came out of the site and some came out of the needle too! i won't reinject and will try again tomorrow, but any other tips? I'm plus size and chose my outer thigh as the injection site, so plenty of fat there.

Fasting numbers, "high risk", and VA healthcare

I'm so annoyed right now. I get my healthcare through the veterans administration. I got DX with GDM around 29 weeks, am 31 weeks now. Ive been testing, got my monitor and strips no problem. Last week I run out of strips ..weird right.? Well, turns out the VA only authorizes 50 strips every 90 days if you don't require insulin!!!!!! Luckily I live close enough to the VA hospital so i drive down and convince them to refill me early.

Apparently, no one at the pharmacy knows anything about prescriptions for pregnancy, and VA rules don't have anything special in them for GDM vs T2. So I'm now messaging my VA primary care, and my regular obgyn to see if they can get me an exception to refill my strips....my OB is not used to dealing with the VA, and my primary was like "well did you ask your OB?"

All of this is a moot point though, because my fasting numbers have been solidly 96-104. Last night I decided to try psyllium husk in my nightly fair life core power, to see if that would help.....BAM fasting was 115, the highest yet! It really feels like I can't do anything right.

I'm feeling so frustrated and alone, and also anxious because how can I trust that I'll be able to access insulin etc when I need it? If they can't even get me enough testing strips! Has anyone here dealt with this diagnosis and the VA before?

Feeling increasingly overwhelmed with added appointments, additional medical "scrutiny"

I'm almost 30wks pregnant, 5'7" 238lb prior to pregnancy, now 248lb. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes a week ago. Ive been monitoring my blood glucose and increasingly freaking out about all the additional medical interventions heading my way. My meals have been fine, but my fasting numbers have been consistently borderline and I'm expecting that ill at least need overnight insulin.

But since that diagnosis, I had an appointment with the "diabetes educator", and now bi weekly followups with her in addition to my bi weekly ob appointments, and then they're going to add additional NST/BSP appointments too.

The more I think about the actual logistics of giving birth, needing to go to the hospital to be induced, then needing a c section maybe the more I'm freaking out. I'm feeling incredibly vulnerable and like I'm just being told what's going to happen. I went on a hospital tour this week and i just felt like crying the whole time. ("Induction at 39weeks or sooner, clear liquid diet only in the hospital, 9/10 pts give birth on their backs, we don't let anyone use the birthing tubs anymore").

I have a history of military sexual trauma, and i was already scared to get an epidural because the thought of being confined to a bed unable to feel my legs or move while strangers touch me felt unbearable.

I already see psych, and a therapist, so I guess I'm just ranting here. How have people coped with changing plans/medical status?
