Searwood coming next week, which pellets to start with?

I see Bear Mountain recommended a lot, but open to suggestions for branch and flavor. I think my first four items will be

Chicken, Turkey Breast, Ribs, and a Tri Tip.

any flavor that will work universally?

Anyone have a vacuum recommendation for cleaning the thing out?

Test drive impressions from a Model Y owner

I test drove an R2, white with dark interior, at the Tyson's location in Virginia today. Unfortunately the drives there are ridiculously short. Basically a mile out and a mile back on a set route. It literally takes longer to walk from the store to the car than to drive one leg of the test drive.

That said, some initial impressions:

  1. I actually really like the white + black color combo, very sharp.
  2. Acceleration was what I expected, coming from a MY and on these short little access roads around Tysons, one can't really play.
  3. The road feel and connection to the road was better than I thought, based on the expectation that I formed reading other people's reviews about a floating feeling. You are higher up, and the hood line is very different between the two vehicles, but it handled very well on those access roads. I was never confused about where the car was going, and never felt disconnected from the read.
  4. Its 100+ degrees here. The AC seemed capable. I didn't have any trouble pointing the vents once I realized the little white cursor on the adjustment display is sort of like a target reticle. However the back vents didn't work. I informed someone in the store, and we couldn't get them to work on the r2 that is in the store either. But yes it can sound like a prop plane; the interior AC fan is crazy.
  5. Vented seats, very nice.
  6. I currently have coastal cloud as my preference and I want to see it, but I really like the look and feel of the dark interior.
  7. One thing I like about the MY better is the merge camera. In the R2 its on the driver display. It's small. It's very difficult to see that image through the steering wheel while trying to merge. There should be an option to put the merge view on the center display (like the MY), and make the image much larger. That said, there is a very useful audio cue if a merge is unsafe. Also, the steering wheel doesn't come that far out.
  8. I found the suspension nice, but with such a limited ride I couldn't play with it. I was on all purpose soft on the way out, and conserve with medium firmness on the way back. Conserve drives like chill mode on the Tesla. I didn't notice a difference between the soft and firm due to the literal <10 minutes I was in the car.
  9. Seats were very comfortable. Im a normal sized 5'9" individual. Back seat room was generous, however in the MY its easy to get the feet under the front seats, so you feel like you are lying back. Less room for that in the R2. But still plenty of space.
  10. Frunk bigger than MY, but rear sub trunk is smaller, and smaller wells behind the wheels as well. I doubt the frunk is temp controlled, so I wouldn't want to transport perishables in their during the summer.
  11. Edit to add: Sound. It was fine. Listened to what I could and didn't have the thought that it was substandard in any way. This came out the cost that I wasn't paying too much attention to how much road noise there is.
  12. Edit to Add: The Qi charger seemed to be fantastic. Phone locks magnetically into place. I believe charging started through the cheap amazon case I have on my iPhone.

Chargepoint or Emporia for an existing 14-50 outlet

I've been using Tesla mobile charger, but am thinking about something with a longer cable. Both CP and Emporia are on the wiki as being high quality, and both offer a Nema 14-50 variant.

Is there any practical difference between these two?

Im also wondering if it's possible to mount the EVSE to one of those garage modular slat systems, which I currently have (it's like a sheet of plastic with parallels grooves you can plug various cabinets and hooks onto).

Another question is does CP or Emporia system have heat detection in the 14-50 plug?

Before the "get hardwired" comments start, I've had my Nema 14-50 setup for six years. It's an Eaton plug in a metal box hanging off my wall. I actually needed to charge my car for about 3 hours today, its over 100 degrees here, and the charger is hot but not so hot i couldn't keep my hand firmly against it indefinitely. The box is somewhat warm but not as hot as the charger, which again is not that hot.

Recteq Bullseye vs Weber Searwood

I've narrowed it down to these two. This would replace my current Weber Genesis.

I use the Genesis mainly for burgers/brats and occasionally swordfish skewers. For now steaks and chicken I cook in a pan/oven in the house. So nothing crazy.

Wanted to have the option to smoke things like turkey breast, ribs, chickens, wings, etc.

I've read very favorable reviews of both the Searwood and the Bullseye. Both have more than enough space for what I need.

The Bullseye has seems to get hotter, so I could potentially sear or reverse sear steaks outside with less mess inside.

However Weber appears to have better customer service (maybe this is a recent thing). Is this accurate? Seen reports of components failing, and Weber sending out replacements immediately. Not sure how it works with Recteq.

Also, I *HATE* cleaning grills. Just did my Genesis, spent about 30 minutes scraping grease though that bottom hole, getting into all the edges in the grill box, under the burners, cleaning off those tent shaped heat deflectors or whatever they are, etc. It's never a perfect process, always messy, and just something I want to avoid as much as is possible.

Which between the Searwood and Bullseye are easier to clean? From the reviews I've read both are fairly easy, and grease management on the Bullseye seems to be "just burn it off". My understanding is that with smoking it's common to put a disposable pan under the food to catch the grease anyway?

Finally, I keep my grill on a covered porch, but for the smoker I might leave it in the uncovered section, especially if Im doing burn-offs intentionally.

Anything else to consider here? Thanks

ASmoke 300 vs Pitboss 150 vs Weber Woodfire XL

Can’t change title, but meant the ninja woodfire.

Looking for a small smoker I can run on my covered porch, leave outside all year.

I’ve seen these three mentioned a bunch and so am looking for any detailed comments that might not appear in reviews.

Any strong opinions on these various smokers? One question I have is the hopper on the Weber seems ridiculously tiny.

I plan to cook chickens and ribs primarily. Maybe burgers if one or all of these can handle grilling without smoking. Might venture into wings or possibly salmon. For the most part just me and my two kids will be enjoying the food so I don’t really have a size concern.

One concern I have is cleanup. Are these easy to clean? I just went thru cleaning my Weber Genesis gas grill and it is just a gross unpleasant experience, but not sure that can really be avoided when dealing with meat.

System was in failure state, then recovered days later

I have a 3+ year old system with SC2, Gateway4(I think) and IQ8Plus micros. 3 10T batteries.

The system was worked flawlessly since installed, except for when one component failed after a year, and was replaced by an Enphase engineer. The engineer put in a wired connection from the envoy, through the wall, to a switch inside the house, that contains the Zigby.

On Thursday I couldn't get live state, the batteries were showing 0% and errors, and from the app the system couldn't determine grid state. The live status error was something like "cannot communicate with System Controller". It was still producing power (the Energy tab was keeping up at 15 minute intervals).

Spent hours on the phone with customer service. The only useful thing we did was move the Zigby from the inside of the house to plug in into the Envoy on the outside of the house.

When I moved the Zigby outside I regained the live view and grid status, but the batteries were still in error state. And even though I saw live status and grid status, every component in the system was reporting errors except the micros.

The Zigby needs to be inside to maintain good contact with the batteries. So I moved it back inside. It maintained live status and grid status for about 24 hours, then went back to the original errors, mid afternoon yesterday.

I opened the app this morning and everything appears to be operating normally, except one battery is still not reporting.

Is this behavior symptomatic of anything? Im guessing it has to do with an update and components got out of whack, but thats just a random guess.

June 2026 Best NEMA 14-50 Dual Charge Setup

I see the Grizzl-E Duo Connect 40A, The NeoCharge Smart Splitter, ClipperCreek  40 Amp Plug-in Dual Charging Station, as well as splitters from Lectron.

Is there general consensus on what works best for 2 NACS vehicles (Model Y and Ioniq5)?
