Micro stuttering and FPS drops

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to figure out a very frustrating issue with my gaming PC.

Even with high FPS, I experience noticeable micro stuttering / hitching in almost every game on a 165Hz 1440p monitor.

In some games it becomes nearly unplayable.
For example, Helldivers 2 runs around 120 FPS, but it still feels extremely laggy and stuttery during gameplay.

My setup:

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B860 Aorus Elite Ice WiFi 7
  • CPU: Intel Ultra 225F
  • GPU: ASRock Steel Legend Radeon RX 9070 XT
  • RAM: 32GB Kingston DDR5 4800MHz
  • PSU: ASUS ROG 1000W
  • Cooling: TRYX 360 AIO
  • Storage: 2TB M.2 SSD
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro
  • Monitor: 1440p 165Hz

Important:

  • The monitor refresh rate is correctly set to 165Hz everywhere (Windows + games)
  • FPS is usually high
  • Temperatures seem fine
  • The issue happens in multiple games, not just one

What confuses me is that the FPS counter looks good, but the actual gameplay feels inconsistent and choppy.

Could this be caused by:

  • RAM speed/timings?
  • Shader compilation?
  • AMD drivers?
  • Frame pacing issues?
  • FreeSync / V-Sync settings?
  • Windows 11 settings?
  • CPU scheduling?
  • Bad frametime consistency?
  • BIOS settings?
  • Something else entirely?

Most importantly:
What could permanently solve this problem WITHOUT replacing the whole PC?

I’d really appreciate help from people who actually fixed similar micro stuttering issues on high-end systems.

Thanks!
