First time in 30 years building in white
and honestly? I get it now. I like it far more than traditional mixed or black theme.
Case: Vision Compact
CPU: 9950X3D
Mobo: Crosshair X870E Glacial
RAM: 64G G.Skill Royal Neo (CL26)
Storage: 3x Samsung 9100 Pro (6T)
GPU: 5080 Astral + WireView Pro
PSU: ROG Thor III 1200W
AIO: HydroShift II LCD-C
Fans: TL Wireless in white
Few changes in the very near future:
- obviously cabling, maybe white CableMod Kit
- 120mm dust filter for rear intake fan
Fan Setup:
- top exhaust
- side intake
- bottom none (low GPU clearance, card pulls its own air)
- rear intake
4:3 fan ratio for positive air pressure
Few thoughts on the setup:
The motherboard: I really do like this variant of the Extreme. Q-connect system improved vastly since original release with X870E Extreme. With the previous board I had to angle and yank out the GPU, here we have a convenient latch system, independent per slot.
Decorative plate that ships with the board and covering the pcie slots is nice but serves purpose only as display item. Has to be removed in order to install a GPU.
While not a BTF board of any kind I’m happy that they included aluminum finishing trims to cover I/O (fan header and internal usb headers) making look more clean.
Robeytech pointed out that bottom trim is too shallow and cannot be attached once cable connectors are attached. In the box Asus included an extra pair of magnets, allowing to extend the depth of that trim - problem solved.
AIO: initially I was planning on HydroShift II LCD-C (again) but didn’t like the quality of the screen. That one has a soft plastic screen insert that scratches even with the softest microfiber cloth. LCD-S (square variant) is much, much higher quality, detachable and completely flush against its own trim. I do like it a lot.
Case: 2 to 2.5 slot GPUs work really well on Vision Compact. 4 slot GPU (like Astral 5080) is really pushing it, leaving very little clearance for fans. I have decided not to install any and let GPU feed its own air since so close to the case floor.
Fans: pretty standard here. HydroShift II really wants to be installed on top for exhaust although you might install it on the side as well if all support brackets for tubes are removed.
I have decided to install reverse blade intake fans on the side to bring cool air for the GPU.
Rear fan is also reversed blade and surprise here - set as intake too. That allows me to cool the CPU socket, VRM and memory efficiently. 120mm magnetic dust filter in order avoid dust build up from that arrangement (cases by default don’t offer dust filters in the rear).
Temps: In the end ratio of 4:3 achieved for positive air pressure. CPUTemps have been fantastic so far with 44-48’C while idle and 68-72’C under load. GPU is slightly warmer compared to my previous builds in this case with 34’C in idle and 58-62’C at full load (stress tested with Furmark 2, Speed Way (3D mark) and OCCT.
Cabling: thats another part to think about, maybe a nice white set from CableMod down the road.
To close things, I’m very happy with the build and I finally get the appeal of white components.
