A Logo For Hope (delete if too off topic)

Long story short, I make comic logos. I live in Minnesota. I merged the BL lantern symbol, with our own personal symbol of hope. The flag become very important to us this year. With everything happening in the world, I have to keep telling myself that even in the blackest night, hope burns bright.

I Make Obscure Character Comic Title/Logos for Funzies!

I hope this counts as art. The characters are "cut-outs" from comics but the comic title/logos themselves are vector images I create. No AI is used at any point. I try to make sure none of these characters have there own comics, but if they did, this is what their logo would look like.

Enjoy!

(yes, I know it's 8-ball, not Eightball...but Eightball is better for a title/logo.)

Edit: I forgot to add, most, if not all of these are over-the-top on purpose. Comic title/logos usually are much simpler.

Three years ago I finished my script for a 10-issue story arc. In a few weeks issue #1 will be a physical thing I can hold in my hands!

Not only did I learn a lot about comic writing, but I learned a new skill and love for lettering! For anyone wondering--252 word doc pages, 185 comic pages.

I have the first several pages of the issue in sequence available at www.ianyoungwrites.com/the-snowman If anyone is interested!

Thanks!

What Kind of Paper do Readers Like?

I'm in the stage of the process of looking for a printer, but I'm in a bit of a philosophical quandary. Personally, I like the feel of old school comics. I like their readability, though agree the newsprint doesn't do much for color.

Through a modern lens, I see the typical Marvel and DC comic paper (or what my local comic shop owner called "cover A" paper) to be a close enough match. It isn't gloss so it reads better and just feels more comfortable to hold. I believe it provides a better reading experience.

Indie comics are made with a thicker paper, almost card stock, and while it seems to exude quality, it isn't comfortable to hold. The corners are pokey and the page edges are sharp. If the comic is thick enough, I'm sure a hard enough throw is capable of decapitation. In the end, I find it distracting.

I spoke with my local comic shop owner and he said he'd never heard of anyone mention or complain about the paper difference. Not surprising really, what's he gonna do about it? But, I have a choice. I would prefer matching "Cover A" paper and providing a more comfortable read, yet this comic is for readers, not me...well, not just me.

Does anyone have any insight that they have learned in their experience? Do readers equate thicker paper with higher quality? Does anyone else consider comfort as part of the reading experience? Thanks!

r/ComicBookCollabs Success Story

I'm a writer/creator and had a graphic novel collecting dust. Hadn't touched it in years. In a moment of serendipity, I happen to come across this sub and see a post by u/Longjumping_Set3236 offering his services as an artist. His art was perfect for my work. Within a day or two, we were making comic pages. I wanted to take the opportunity to show off his work and show off a product of the sub. Thanks r/ComicBookCollabs!

Are there any other success stories out there from this sub?
