Hospitality - Any Directors?
anyone currently in a Director role ?
anyone currently in a Director role ?
I’m starting to become a bit frustrated & annoyed idk what to do with this new role.
i am trying so hard, changed the way i approach situations & the team & im still getting the same feedback as far as im ”too Direct”
idk im starting to get discouraged & now feel im not doing my role well & im not good enough.
tips & pointers on how to build relationship with team? i am a Director & seeking advice…
i am pretty direct & stern & have gotten feedback that i need to have a softer approach & i cant lie it’s challenging because that’s just not who i am at work..
i am very much we are all here to work & do a job so do your job but people nowadays want to be babied & coddled…
anyways what are some good ideas or feedback on how to build relationships with front line workers & get their buy in at work / with customers etc
those in senior leadership roles; thoughts on being the “go to person” for every situation at work because people know you know the answers to 99% of things & that you will assist them when they ask?.
flex? or ?
hello,
been in my Director role for 4 months now, its been interesting to say the least…
hotel industry to be exact.
seeking advice,
i find myself doing majority of the tasks & when i am off work, operations does not run the same as to when i am at work..
i am going to start delegating tasks,
Anyone in the hotel industry?
what’s tasks do you delegate to your team?
just started as a new Director of the Front Office (hotel industry) and of course as expected I have been receiving pushback...
I got an email a week ago from Front Office Managers (3 leaders under me) asking that when I leave the office for the day, to let them know, which I said yes that is totally fine I do not mind doing that...
IDK if I am being an asshole or overthinking, I usually just leave for the day when I am done with my work, I didn't think a goodbye was necessary but they said in the email it is common courtesy so see if they are good before I leave (again, weird but no problem)
in the email it also read to let them know so they are aware of what managers are left for associate assistance/referrals, not going to lie this one threw me off a bit...
and I hate to use the title/authority example but there is a proper protocol (chain of command)....
reporting order below...
front desk managers -----> front office manager -----> director
I am unsure how to go about this or address this....... wed-fri alone I had nonstop meetings with corporate, leadership and labor/revenue managers meetings all day and group conventions arriving from 8:00am - 4:00pm, barely being able to step away to take a 30 min break to grab a bite to eat...
i am a little annoyed and frustrated because they used words "re-directing"... and stating i am not available & we should all be available to the team..... all leaders (Director, me) (Managers, 3 of them) being in office for the day does NOT erase escalation structure. sorry for the run on sentences it is 3am and i cannot sleep so im just typing away
Hello,
I am in my first senior leadership role as a Director (hotel industry)
and the structure of my department (Front Office)
is
Director of Front Office
Front Office Manager
Front Office Supervisor
Front Desk Agents
so in the 2 months that i have been there, i have noticed a pattern (that i spotted right away within weeks) but now It has gotten way out of hand so i am unsure how to address…
the Front Office Manager is constantly pushing tasks to me, whether it’s guest conflict or anything that has to do with the front desk agents…
another Director in A different department suggested to FOM next time he needs guidance ask me for assistance or how to properly approach a situation or do a proper guest service recovery & he responded “nope im not going to ask Director because anytime i do, they push the task right back to me”…
for one, i do not push It back because i do not want to do It, i push It back because you are not handling It & just pushing the task onto me…
How do i approach this situation?
they do not want guidance/assistance from me cause they think i “push back tasks” but for one… I’m pushing back the tasks Cause you’re not even handling them lol you’re pushing them all on me when i already do a lot at Director level…
so he doesn’t want the coaching or guidance, but still wants to push the tasks to me....
i hope i make sense (I’m tired) lol
question out of pure curiosity….
Folks in hotel operations who makes the weekly schedule for your team?
the Director (head of department)
or the manager?
i am a new Director,.. senior leadership position. & just looking for others opinions or experience on how you've dealt with managers who give you constant pushback or question everything... & how did you navigate when this occurred? any & all feedback is appreciated.
Hello!
I started a new role and noticed this property does not have any checklist… (crazy to me) so i want to do shift checklist, for accountability of course and organization and structure
anyone willing to share / email with me?
Marriott brand btw & use Lightspeed!!!!
AM, PM, Night Audit, AYS (Operator) checklist would be great!
Thoughts on salary paid managers not being available when off property???
this isn’t saying that we would call the manager on their off day but in the event that they are texted / called / email that does require a response, what are the expectations/rules of getting a reply?
if it’s not urgent then email but if someone is texting you personally a question & no answer because you don’t answer when you’re not at work for your “mental health” (but you are not an hourly associate)
just looking for thoughts & opinions?
Thoughts on checklists?
do you think they are a form of micromanaging or good management?
All feedback welcome.
also, i guess it depends what line of work you do, for more context i work in hospitality (hotel industry) so checklists especially the front desk operations is very important to have
would anyone ever be so kind to share a check list for the front desk staff?
AM, PM, Nightshift checklist.
thank you!!!
