>Film at Lincoln Center announces Ava DuVernay’s 14th as the Closing Night selection of the 64th New York Film Festival, presented in partnership with Rolex. The film will make its world premiere at Alice Tully Hall on Friday, October 9, with DuVernay and film participants in attendance. Presented by Film at Lincoln Center in partnership with Rolex, the 64th New York Film Festival will take place from September 25 through October 12.

>Ten years ago, filmmaker Ava DuVernay released her epochal documentary 13th (NYFF54 Opening Night), which argued that loopholes in the U.S. Constitution’s 13th Amendment—the abolition of slavery—led to today’s mass incarceration of Black Americans. That film was released on the eve of Donald Trump’s presidency; since then, an alarming number of our democratic norms and principles have eroded, further disenfranchising Black Americans. In response to our distressing new reality, DuVernay has created a thrillingly expansive sequel of sorts, which passionately and persuasively details how the tenets of the 14th Amendment, ratified post–Civil War, are now under systematic attack. At San Diego Comic-Con every year, they wrap nearby hotels with promotions of the companies attending the convention or holding offsite events. This time, it seems the Hard Rock Hotel (the one directly opposite the convention center) is getting a wrap of Wildwood, the new LAIKA film. This is surprising, mainly due to the fact that there's no Wildwood panel planned for the convention, and there's no offsite event currently announced for it.

We may see how the convention goes this weekend, but we might get news about the film, maybe even a new trailer.

>On Friday, July 24 at 5pm, Universal Pictures will host a special advance screening of DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island at AMC Mission Valley (1640 Camino Del Rio N, San Diego), and we’re giving our readers the chance to attend, ahead of the September 25 release.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the world premiere of the final cut? Considering both the Cinemacon and Annecy screenings were the work-in-progress cut, and that the next confirmed screening is in August in Melbourne.

Meaning it's not coming to TIFF. Not really a shocker; it was very obviously a NYFF film.

An interesting approach to this feature. I guess they're aiming to market it for the geek crowd and hopefully make it an action-fantasy box office darling, rather than marketing it for any awards.

Festival run seems likely!

We only got two additional shots, but they look SO GOOD.

The new Avatar The Last Airbender film is officially dropping on Paramount+ on July 25th, completely forgoing any prior limited theatrical release to qualify for awards.

>EXCLUSIVE: Jesse Eisenberg has confirmed his upcoming film The Debut will launch at an autumn film festival this year, and teased new projects including an A24 series with The Social Reckoning producer Peter Rice.
Eisenberg confirmed to Screen that the film will launch at a festival this year. He could not disclose which festival, joking that “[producers] A24 will sue me”.
“We have the most wonderful trajectory,” said Eisenberg. “[A24] are so supportive, and I couldn’t feel luckier going into the fall with them.”

The project, originally slated for an October 9th streaming release, is now rumored to be released by the end of this month. If it's true and not a mistake, that likely means the announcement would be made last-minute at the ATLA SDCC panel.

That would also mean that Paramount is not planning a festival run for it, and at the moment, they don't plan a limited theatrical release as well. Unless they come back later this year with limited screenings and engagements, it seems Paramount is putting this film completely out of the Oscar race.
