Is there a way to ask hmrc to resend me the notification that asks for the Self Assessment tsx return by post?
So basically I was ask to prove my uk tax residency from my bank. My bank is a uk bank and they want documents issued by the authority I am tax resident in so the uk. They accept passports but my passport is an eu passport so won't do.
When called askifor clarification they said the best would have been a certificate of residence from hmrc. So I requested that and explained the all situation. They answered saying that unless I am planning on claiming tax stuff in another country they can't provide me with this. They said "your bank should have a process in place to prove your residence" and that they can't provide me with a certificate of residence. Mind you had explained to them this was to prove tax residency specifically but still the answer is they can't do it unless I say that I am trying to claim tax relif in an other country, that would be false so I am not doing that.
I asked chatgpt cause service line from my bank was no fucking use. And it said correspondence from hmrc could also do. The issue is I went paperless in 2023 and so all yhe messages I have don't show my name on it they are simply on my account.
I was wondering, you know how in April they send you the notice you have to complete a tax return? I got that message already but is there maybe a way to request they send me an actual letter in the post with my name on it even if now the 6th of April has passed?
Also before anyone mentions it, I don't have payee slips cause I have been self employed for years.
For context the all of this cause I went on vacation abroad for 1 month! During which I asked the bank if they could send me my debit card the address abroad and they said they could do it if I changed the address on my account, I did and then changed it back to my home address in the UK when I got back after a month and now the all of this is happening. Had I known I would have never done that, they didn't even bother to inform me it would stirr up all this drama and I don't know what to do now.
So any help is appreciated. I have been trying to see if there's like hmrc email address or something but they are all just phone numbers for things that don't quite seem to cover what I need. I wanted to avoid having to write to them cause I am already passed the deadline to answer the bank (cause I was waiting for the certificate that then they didn't give me) and sending a letter by post would take like another 10 days plus god knows how long to hear back. So if anyone knows how I could ask them to send me the notice to file self assessment that would be great.
Thank you in advance
