Printing

Hi all, I'm wanting to print off some custom waterslide sheets on thick A4 paper (200gsm). My house printer is ancient & doesn't want to print on the paper, is there anywhere in Aberdeen that allows full colour bring-your-own paper printing or should I just look for a printer on facebook marketplace? Not sure if I want to take that risk & spend £100 on a printer with half a page worth of ink lol

E-bike Locations

Disappointed to see that the e-bikes don't even come close to most of the homes where commuters live on Donside (Tillydrone, Grandholm, Danestone, Bridge of Don).

Surely these are the areas you would most want to have a bike to ease access to, rather than the places in the center of town which are very much walkable anyway?

What even is Big Mannys' Pizza?

So I'm walking past the Adam Lounge and I'm suddenly struck by something on the sign outside.

I had always assumed that "Big Mannie's" referred to the 3 lads in the logo, which depicts 3 men drawn in caricature as being of stocky build. It's the pizza company belonging to these 3 mannies.

Three stocky lads who presumably run a pizza company

I also wondered if there was some deliberate word play, as in Scots, the suffix "ie" can sometimes be used in the diminutive - eg a burnie is a wee burn - so it could be translated as a fun contradiction to call them big and diminutive at the same time.

Or, maybe it's a reference to the smallest of the men in caricature - maybe the small stocky man owns the business and the other two standard big men are just his employees?

This is what I thought up until I saw the sign today - it's not Big Mannie's at all.

MANNYS'

Manny is not a Doric word to describe a man. Manny is a name originating from the Americas found most commonly in Hispanic populations.

So which of these three guys is Manny? And who are the other two blokes?

The answer comes clear when you notice the apostrophe is not where you'd expect to find it.

"Big Manny's Pizza" would refer to a Pizza(company) belonging to someone called Manny.
"Big Mannys' Pizza" would refer to a Pizza(company) belonging to a collective of Mannys*.

So that means that all three of the guys on the logo are called Manny!
Three people with a name uncommon to the north east all of the same gender and age group, all interested in starting a pizza company, found each other and started the business!

\"What are the chances of that happening?\"

Now, I have to admit, I was a little suspect, so I checked companies house and found that the company was actually started by 4* individuals:
Ashley Adams***
Philip Adams***
Simon Cowie
Callum Wright

None of them are called Manny!
It's all a lie!!!

...

However, there's an alternative theory. One which is actually more plausible.

They just don't know how to use grammar.

A harsh accusation, I know! Surely I wouldn't have the nerve to make this audacious claim without evidence to back it up??

Look at the sign yourself. It also says " Big Screen TVs' "

Maybe they should get someone to proof read before they commit funds to signage and marketing material.

>!*Or a singular person called "Mannys" but I can't find any instance of that name being used anywhere. !<

>!**Which of those poor souls do you reckon got excluded from getting a caricature drawn up and included on the logo?!<

>!***On a separate note, what are the chances of two Adams' having ties to a bar called The Adams Lounge? I thought that was self explanatory until I noticed their sign and all their marketing actually calls it The Adam Lounge. A lot of people call it the Adams lounge though, in fact, they actually make that mistake themselves sometimes.!<

Have you ever met any local Aberdeen celebrities or personalities. Who were the nicest and who were the rudest?

I know Aberdeen doesn't have many 'big time' celebrities.

But have you ever met any weel-kent personalities in the City - footballers, TV, music, business people, vloggers, politicians.

Who were the nicest and who were the rudest?

Does anyone remember the Neds and Goths (subculture) in Aberdeen? Don't hear much about them these days!

Anyone who grew up in Aberdeen in the 2000s will remember.

The Neds were clad in Burberry baseball caps, white trackies, white trainers and gaudy gold jewellery. They'd be outside M&S on weekends or at places like Budz Bar or The Palace. I wasn't one but I did know friends who knew them.

Similarly, the Marilyn Manson/Ozzy Osbourne, trenchcoat wearing Goths that would hang around school corriders and you were afraid would cast a spell on you. They'd frequent Drummonds, record shops and Lava at weekends.

You don't really hear anything about them these days. Does anyone else remember them? I know they would be well into their thirties by now but did they just die out as a subculture?

Parking fine

I came down this morning to find I've been fined for parking outside my flat, even though I have a valid permit. I wasn't on any yellow lines and when I checked online my permit is all good, for the area I'm in. Anyone else had any issues with this and have managed to appeal? I'm raging!
