SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT - FIRST TEST
The South Africa Men’s selection panel has today named a preliminary 18-player squad for the first Dafabet Test against Australia, scheduled to take place from 09 - 13 October at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium in Durban.
Hollywoodbets Dolphins batter Marques Ackerman is the only uncapped player in the squad, earning his maiden Test call-up following an impressive run of form for South Africa A (SA ‘A’).
Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been included as he continues his recovery from a right hamstring injury.
Fellow seamers Ottneil Baartman, Kwena Maphaka and Lungi Ngidi were not considered for selection as they continue their rehabilitation from their respective hamstring injuries.
Gerald Coetzee (Momentum Multiply Titans), Anrich Nortje (Hollywoodbets Dolphins), and Dane Paterson (YesPlay Cobras) make their return to the Test setup.

youtube.comBjorn Fortuin to captain South Africa on Namibia tour 🇿🇦🏏
Bjorn Fortuin has been named captain of a young Proteas squad for the upcoming white-ball tour of Namibia.
South Africa will first play a T20I tri-series against Namibia and Zimbabwe from 28 August in Windhoek, followed by a three-match ODI series against Namibia.
Squad: Bjorn Fortuin (c), Eathan Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, Connor Esterhuizen, Jordan Hermann, Rubin Hermann, Duan Jansen, Kwena Maphaka, Nqobani Mokoena, Nqaba Peter, Lhuan-dré Pretorius, Lutho Sipamla, Jason Smith and Prenelan Subrayen.
A few interesting selections:
- Duan Jansen earns his maiden Proteas call-up after a strong domestic season.
- Eathan Bosch is uncapped at T20I level.
- Connor Esterhuizen, Jordan Hermann and Nqobani Mokoena receive maiden ODI call-ups.
- Brothers Jordan and Rubin Hermann are both included.
- Fortuin gets an opportunity to captain the national side.
A very young-looking squad, but plenty of talent in there with Brevis, Maphaka, Pretorius and the Hermann brothers.
What do you think of the squad? Anyone you would have liked to see included?
