Query about access to public path near Potters Bar station

Hello! I'll be leading a walk starting from Potters Bar, and when I went to scope out the route, it led through this grey gate I've marked with the red circle to access the path next to Potters Bar Brook. This is a 6-7 min walk north of the train station near the revive gym and is at the end of a car park.

However, I couldn't access what shows up on maps as a publicly accessible footpath because the gate was closed. I was wondering if locals know whether the gate is normally open? I was there fairly early in the morning, which is perhaps why it was closed?

Any help will be appreciated!

Best way to guage interest in something casual after a date?

Relatively new to the dating scene here in the UK, and I've (34M, straight) had a few instances where, after a first date, I haven't really felt any sort of emotional connection and there's been an absence of shared values.

So far in such cases, I've either politely informed the person afterwards that we're not compatible, or I've asked for a 2nd date. The 2nd and in some cases 3rd dates have followed a similar pattern, and either me or the woman have amicably decided not to carry on.

I've been fine with this, but in some cases, I've still found the person attractive, and conversation flowed easily. I'm wondering what the reaction would be from the women in similar circumstances in the future if i text something like:

"Hey, I enjoyed our conversation and think you're great but I didn't really sense a connection. Are you interested in something more casual?"

Is there a chance women will be offended by this? I don't mind them saying no of course but don't want them to feel unsafe or objectified in any way. I'd especially appreciate women's views on this. The reason why I'm hesitant is that the women I've met have all been on their guard slightly; very polite and easy to talk to with lots of shared laughter, but it seems they steer clear of anything beyond small talk and don't lean too much into my flirting or compliments early on. Something something British reserve perhaps.

What I will not do is to lead them on, go on multiple dates and feign commitment while ultimately mostly wanting something physical; I may be more likely to be successful that way but i consider it questionable behaviour.
