Is it possible to buy in Hertfordshire on your own?

Hi, we are a couple with less social life, working in London (2/3 days a week). We are planning to move to Letchworth Garden City. What are good areas we can look for rental houses/apartments? What should we keep in mind before moving? How is the safety in case we travel in nights from London?
Thought I’d throw this out there and see if anyone’s in a similar position.
I’m 25, live near Hertford and ware, Looking to meet a few new people around a similar age to watch the football, go for a pint, grab some food, or pretty much anything that’s a good laugh.
If a few people are interested, it’d be good to get a little WhatsApp group going and organise something every now and then.
If that sounds like your sort of thing, drop me a message or leave a comment 🍻
Hi, what are your current experiences of daily work commutes into London from Royston please, most importantly in terms of train reliability, and secondly in terms of how crowded it is? We've been looking to move from London to Royston (and both of us will be continuing to work in London). We're viewing a property in Royston today and the trains have been horrendous all day (my partner travelled there this morning and I arrived this afternoon) - every other train has been cancelled and the trains that are operating require a change at Hitchin. My partner is now getting cold feet about moving here if this is a common occurrence. It would be great to get a sense of how common this is from people currently doing this commute. I see there's a similar post asking about this but from 4 years ago, hence wanting a current perspective. Thank you!
Hello. As title title really!
I’m attending the iron maiden show at knebworth on Saturday as a bit of impromptu trip and planned on parking in Stevenage and walking the rest to avoid the masses of traffic coming in and out of the venue.
I’ve checked sites such as just park and your parking space but everything that can be booked is already booked and it’s just the pay as you arrive spaces available.
I have visited Stevenage a few times for the marathon in 2024 and the Fairland Vally challenge so I’m vaguely familiar with the town.
Is anyone able to recommend a good area to park for the day please? Ideally on the west side of the town? More than happy to pay what is required but given the length of stay a lot of the retail parks etc are ruled out.
Many thanks.
Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.
Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212
And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app
P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.
Kyo has been missing since February. Had a 2y male with white paws and chest as well as a ginger chin. He has a slit on his tongue if you can seen and is very food motivated. Unfortunately he went missing before his neutering and chipping. I have contacted local vets and rescue as well as putting posts on FB. If you see him please let me know

Hi everyone! 😊
This is a bit random, but I’m in my late 20s and recently found out about the Eternal Throne Ball taking place in 2027 at Stowe House. It’s a fantasy/royal immersive ball where everyone dresses up in elaborate gowns and suits, and it looks incredible.
None of my friends are really into this sort of thing, so I was wondering if anyone in Hertfordshire enjoys fantasy events, masquerade balls, cosplay, historical/fantasy fashion, or immersive experiences and might be thinking of going?
It would be lovely to chat with people who have similar interests, and maybe even organise travelling together closer to the time if we all decide to go.
I've been visiting towns I'd never normally go to for my channel and the gap between what I expected and what's actually there is massive. Went to Berkhamsted last week (a town I've passed through on the train probably 20 times without stopping). Turns out it has a free Norman castle right next to the station. And that's not even the most surprising thing I found there. Feel like we're all guilty of writing off places because of vibes rather than actually going.
Anyone else found a place that completely flipped their assumptions?
Channel if you want to see what I mean (sub if you want to come on the journey with me too)
Hi everyone,
I’m in my late 20s buying my first 1-bed flat solo. Budget is £145k mortgage + £15k deposit. I rely entirely on public transport for work and am looking at the Watford / Hertfordshire area.
I am viewing a flat in Garston soon, but have a couple of quick questions:
Service Charge: It is £1,700 per year. Is this too high for a standard 1-bed flat? Will it hurt my future resale value?
Area & Transport: What is Garston like to live in solo? Is the public transport reliable for commuting without a car?
Would love to hear any honest feedback!
Thanks :)
I regularly travel from the City into Hertford. I normally get a Thameslink train to Finsbury Park, then change onto Great Northern to Hertford North. That journey usually costs me around £10.60.
Sometimes Citymapper suggests a faster route: stay on the Thameslink train all the way to Stevenage, then change onto a Great Northern service back to Hertford North. Citymapper always shows this route as costing the same fare.
I tried it once, but I ended up being charged roughly double, so I’ve avoided it since.
Does anyone know whether the Stevenage route should be the same price as changing at Finsbury Park? If it is, did I likely do something wrong (tap in/out issue, wrong ticket, etc.)?
It would be great if I could use the Stevenage route when it’s quicker, but I don’t want to get stung with a much higher fare again.
I am using contactless.
Thanks!
She has had problems with predatory men who take drugs in her previous house share so is anxious to find a female only environment without drug takers.
Where would you recommend she looks? I am trying to help her.
Does anybody know where to sign up for casual football games or teams around Hatfield ? Can travel further. I don’t play often im just after something for fun and in good spirit. I’m 21
After 8 turbulent years of flatsharing in London, I’ve just moved to St Albans with my partner. But my whole social life is still in London… I’d love some local friends.
People who are also new to town, let’s connect?
Hey guys, I’ve just moved to St Albans and was wondering if anyone could recommend any social run clubs.
Back when I lived in Bristol there was loads of cafes / pubs that would organise a weekly run and then a social after. Is there anything similar here?
Cheers
