Which voice writing program would you recommend (or skip) if navigating multi-state licensing/remote work is a priority for me

I'm considering voice writing programs, but my state (OH) isn't widely using voice writing yet. For the few people I know who are doing voicewriting depos in Ohio, their rates are ABYSMAL. I've heard that once you're CVR credentialed, you may be able to do freelance/remote work for other states, though I know the rules (i.e., notary requirements, which states need their own separate exam, reciprocity, etc.) vary a lot state to state.

For anyone who's been through a program: did your instructor(s) give solid guidance on navigating that side of things (which states are more voice-writer-friendly, which pay the best, what extra certs are worth pursuing, how the legal/licensing stuff actually works for remote depo work), or is that mostly something people figure out on their own after graduating? Trying to weigh programs partly on how much career-planning support they offer. Any insight appreciated!

does RVT adequately prepare for transcript production and other skills beyond voicewriting?

I live in Ohio and am between tri-c and RVT. Tri-c seems to do a very thorough job with all academics and transcript production, and also sets you up with an internship. I also live in that area, so I wonder if that would give me extra pull when job searching. However, it is longer, more expensive, not self-paced, still teaching predominately dragon.

I've heard mostly wonderful things about RVT and like that it teaches speechmatics but wonder if it makes you "court-ready" in the sense of transcript production and other procedural things. I also wonder if there is any support to help find people to shadow in your area, or help/advice for finding work.

TIA for your insights!

agency rates across different states

I live in Ohio and am considering trying to become a court reporter via voice writing. I am wondering how much agency rates vary by states.

I recently spoke with Ohio voice reporter who freelances for a few agencies, and her rates were significantly lower than what I see people in other states posting (average $44/hr appearance rate, $2.72 page rate, $1.96 copy rate). Is that typical for Ohio and if so, are other states paying similarly?

I've also heard mixed things on how easy/hard it is to work remotely for a different state via freelance agency work if you have CVR, ranging from "near impossible because of different state's rules/erquirements" to "generally super easy" and would love more clarity on this since Ohio has been slow to adopting voicewriting.

Voice writers—please share

Trying to get accurate sense of salary as I consider a career change. If you are a voice writer and comfortable sharing the following, I’d be so grateful!

  1. Approximate annual salary
  2. Avg. hours worked/week
  3. Years experience
  4. Any other relevant details (state, real time certified, agency vs non agency, etc.)

I am especially curious to hear from any voice writer located in Ohio…I know Ohio recently switched to legally allowing voice writing but still often only wanting stenographers so wondering if it’s been hard finding jobs or if agencies have been able to hook you up easily with out-of-state remote work (if OH jobs truly as scarce as some are making it seem)

TIA!!

Ohio agency rates

Could any Ohio court reporters please share what kind of rates you’re getting from agency freelance work? Additionally, for people doing voice, do you ever have trouble finding freelance jobs?

Was this actually inevitable with gel x

ETA: The lifting/crookedness was always this pronounced and even the nail tech commented on it, but any imperfections related to polish application or nail shape likely mostly my fault…when I got home I added the sparkles because it looked too raw chicken to me (my fault, not hers). I also very mildly filed the nails to be slightly less almondy, as I prefer a more squoval look at didn’t speak up enough at appointment.

Last two pics are my natural nails. I am lifelong nail biter and I had been told that I should get builder gel or gel x if I want to try and stop biting/grow them out. I asked my manicurist (with good reviews) which I should do and she said definitely gel x.

Then when she started gluing the nails on I could tell right away they were sticking out really strangely (even before she cut them shorter) and she seemed concerned they wouldn’t stay because of the size of my nail beds but like didn’t really express this concerns until after they were all glued on. I told her I wanted them cut shorter which she agreed to do, but she acted like because of my nail bed size, the shorter length, and my bulbous fingertips, it is inevitable that the nails would stick up like this.

I’m confused because when I do my own glue-on nails, I can get them glued on and cut down without them sticking upright like this, and I know it’s obviously not the same procedure but the nail shapes seem similar enough. I’ve also had acrylics before of similar length with my natural nails looking the same, and they didn’t have this issue.

Just wanted to see if what she is saying—that there’s no way to not make them stick up like this given my nail beds/ shorter length—is accurate. Because if so I’m def not getting gel x again lol.

CLE tennis folks-- free website for finding local tennis events and hitting partners in NEOhio

Hey r/Cleveland, my friends and I built Youin, a free tool for finding local tennis tournaments, leagues, clinics, and hitting partners in Northeast Ohio. We wanted to create a centralized hub for all the stuff that's currently scattered across club websites, Facebook groups, and USTA pages.

We have 169+ events listed right now including stuff in Akron, Cleveland Heights, Westlake, Mentor, Youngstown, Canton. There's also a matchmaking side where you can post a rally request and find someone to hit with, and a "courtside chat" discussion board that I envision being used similarly to a NEOhio tennis subreddit once we get enough traffic.

It's free, no subscription, no paywall to browse. We're genuinely early and trying to figure out what the NEO tennis community actually wants and would love any feedback, harsh or otherwise. Thanks for considering!

Leaving Venice June 30th, Flying out of Munich morning of July 3...should I make a stop anywhere?

I am an American who will be in Venice from June 22-June 30th (cannot leave any earlier). My German friend who lives in Munich is coming down to Venice on June 28th to spend some time in Venice with me, and then we both need to be back in Munich by the morning of July 3rd. My friend seems open to idea of us taking train straight to Munich on the 30th (I will stay at her place), or making a stop along the way (potentially Bolzano, Innsbruck, or Salzburg).

I am not someone who travels often so I probably won't be back in this area for a very long time, if ever, and have only ever been to Iceland and Spain before (in terms of European counties). I have heard Munich is awesome and do not want to feel like I did not get enough time there... but also wonder if I will regret stopping in one of these other places for a day.

Please let me know what you would recommend! Appreciate any insights you have to share!
