Car Servicing

Hey all, looking for recommendations for a car service. I have a pretty old 07 Astra I bought in May as my first car and its last service was last September I think.

I’ve seen DD recommended but £350 for a service for a car this age seems a bit extreme. I don’t really have the space on my drive to do the work myself (oil and spark plug change) and probably best I get the first one done by a professional.

First Road Bike

Training for the London Marathon and needed a low-impact aerobic training method. 2019 Giant Contend SL1, bit sad it’s rim brakes but it was pretty cheap and never been used outdoors. I’ve put the stock seat back on it and clipless gear is in the post as we speak.

I’ve also just signed up for the Eastbourne tri next year, truly midlife crisis stuff.

Eye Test Prices

Does anyone know how much an eye test is at the Observatory? Classically there’s no prices on their website so just want to know before my appointment

Moving from London

Myself, my wife and our dog are moving to Ipswich next week from London, my sister-in-law lives in Ipswich (hence the move) but wanted to know peoples thoughts on the Derby Road area? And also any suggestions on days out? Feel very spoilt having so many places within a half hour drive, not sure where to start!

A few days delayed but...PASSED

After my fail in December I found a new driving instructor who I really got on with, we were on the same wavelength, same age, same sense of humour - it all made a huge difference.

My ONLY minor was for adjusting my forward bay park - there was a small chance I was in the box first time, but I wasn't 100% convinced I wasnt touching a line. It was near the start of the test so I was still a bit nervy so instead of getting all the way out to check I just took the minor and made sure it was in nicely.

This has been a long journey for me - I started learning pre-covid. Test was cancelled when lockdown hit then I moved to London so put it off for a few years, then did a semi-intensive course back in November for a December test and immediately disliked my instructor but the test was too close and I knew how hard it would be to get another so I persevered because I was confident in my own ability but the test nerves got the best of me.

I bought my first car 2 days after I passed my test, a 1.6L '07 Astra. It's not flashy but it's mine, I've driven every day since, as much as I can - and I don't plan to stop!

FREEDOM!!!

As title suggests, I've found a car I'm interested in (first car) in London, the images are taken in a mews in Maida Vale, and the meetup location the seller has sent me is about a 25 minute walk away in a residential area.

They havent asked for a deposit, it's only a £2k car, they seem friendly over text. Just feels a bit weird given the location discrepancy.

How would you handle this? I don't want to miss out on a legit car, but I also don't want to get mugged in a housing estate.
