Anyone watch Channel 5‘s Tour de France highlights? It’s a new production. What’s it like? Do they have people in France following the Tour? Or is it remote coverage?

£3500 Road bike advice

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade from my Cannondale Topstone 2 gravel bike as I've been mostly road cycling.

Budget is around the £3-£3.5k mark.

Here is a few I've found:

  • Cube Agree C:62 Pro 2026 — £3,399 Ultegra Di2, Newmen Advanced A.50 carbon wheels.
  • Giant TCR Advanced 0 2026 — £3,299 Shimano 105 Di2, Giant SLR 2 40 carbon wheels.
  • Trek Madone SL 6 Gen 8 — £3,200 Shimano 105 Di2, Bontrager Aeolus Elite 50 carbon wheels

Can anyone give their thoughts on these, or give other suggestions?

Most rides will be in the 30-90km range. Fast solo+group rides and *potentially* races.

Thanks

Best place to sell/trade in bikes

Too many close calls and far too little space from motorists have somewhat dampened my enthusiasm to get out on the road. Especially with a little one on the way, the risk doesn’t feel worth it.

I have sold bikes on eBay in the past but I don’t feel I’ve got anywhere near what they’re worth. Plus a load of ‘interest’ from people who don’t know what they’re looking at, trying to low ball. So was wondering if there was somewhere better?

Not including bike details as don’t want this to be seen as an advert.

Thanks!

Kids bike sizing/gears/recommendations

Hi,

My son is almost 5, he's pretty big & tall, he's never really taken to a bike but I'm trying to get him more interested in it now that he's a bit older. I've taken him to a couple of places to look at bikes but most of the ones they've showing him have gears, which I don't think he needs as he can't even ride/balance yet. He's about 122cm tall (48cm inside leg), he's probably at the very bottom of the scale for a 20" bike.

I was told that not all bike sizes are equal. He tried a 20" at one place and they said it was quite big and chunky compared to a yomo for example.biblooked at yomo 20 but it has gears.

Can anyone recommend a bike that's a good starter bike, without gears, I guess he needs a "small" 20" bike. Or should I just get one with gears?

Any help would be appreciated!

Best bike / ebike insurance company?

Hey there, I was just wondering what the best bike or e-bike insurance company is for a bike over a round a few k. The internet is just awash with all information and it's difficult to say what is the best or not, so I thought I'd ask here for some good recommendations and some ones to avoid.

Also, I'm going to get a diamond-rated D-lock and a diamond-rated chain. The ones that I was thinking of getting was LITELOK X3 and a Kryptonite Chain, do you know if those cover me for all insurance or do I have to read the insurance line print and they recommend which locks and chains to get?

Thank you so much for your help, everyone. It's very confusing space to enter into. I've never done full bike insurance before.

How does e-bike legislation actually work? (and recommendations under £1500)

I'm looking at taking up biking as a hobby as it's more fun than running. I've purchased a standard bike for now and I'm trying to understand how UK e-bike regulations are actually applied, because I keep seeing conflicting information.

As far as I know, a legal UK e-bike is limited to:

  • 250W continuous rated motor output
  • Motor assistance cuts out at 15.5 mph (25 km/h)
  • Pedal assist only (apart from walk assist)
  1. A lot of motors advertised as "250W" have higher wattage motors but are restricted down. Is this legal?

  2. Furthermore i've seen a lot of e-bikes that can be unlocked - is it illegal to own a bike that can be unlocked or is it only illegal if you're caught riding one that's been unlocked? I've got no desire to

  3. Also does anyone have any reccomendations for a MTB/Hybrid e-bike for under £1500? I do have access to cycle2work if there's ones that are more expensive but worth it.

Enduro bike rear wheel with broken and loose spokes the afternoon before a 5 hour drive to Glen Nevis to ride the Nevis range trails Sunday and Monday. What's the best option to fix it for Sunday's riding?

Let's start with the fact this isn't my bike but my teenage son's bike. He has known for weeks we're going there and using his bike but he never told me anything was wrong. I only found out when trial fitting it on a new bike carrier.

So the advice I need is about what is my best option to get this rideable?

I can only think of four options. Get a new wheel somehow and put the cassette and tyre on it. Get the wheel repaired at a good local shop Saturday morning if at all possible. Drive to fort William and find a good shop there to hopefully fix it. Or leave the bike and hire a bike there.

Any other ideas or solutions?

Other than leaving our son behind with grandparents as punishment! Or worse if I don't chill before he gets home. 🤬 Joking!

Hiring a bike suitable for his riding when there is not cheap so I'd prefer to get a fix done so he finally gets to ride his bike where it's meant to be ridden.

Longer term solution is getting him on a bike repair course and somehow getting him to actually check and fix or check and tell me of issues as soon as possible.

Looking for a gravel/all road frameset for under £800 and cant seem to find one suitable. Any suggestions?

Im looking to build up a gravel bike from a frameset and cant quite seem to find the right bike for what I want.

Id like lots of mounting points for bags/gubbins etc but also a frame geo closer to a road bike than a mountain bike.

The sonder camino and colibri both look almost perfect, but the camino ive read has a mtb-esque geometry and the colibri can only take up to 35mm tyres, which will be quite limiting.

Does anyone have any suggestions for frames to look out for? Thanks!

Which part of your bike do you spend the most money upgrading, and is it actually worth it?

I've gone through a few chains and sprockets because of the constant use, and I invested in decent brakes because I need them to actually work reliably. The wheels have been the expensive bit though, getting puncture resistant tyres and a solid rim has cost a fair bit.

I'm wondering what people reckon is actually worth splashing out on versus what's just nice to have

Big oversized comfort seats *without* springs/elastomer?

First things first: I ride step-through Dutch bikes and cargos in a fully upright riding posture for utility and scenery-absorbing leisure. I own no lycra, none of my bikes' tires are narrower than 2", and I only ever go faster than the e-assist when I'm going downhill. I'm not implying riding in other ways is wrong or whatever, I'm just tired of getting "but what about weight/aero" type responses when I ask about bike stuff.

So that said, I'm looking for more comfortable seats for my bikes. I was momentarily intrigued by that fancy rotating split-seat design by an Aussie company until I saw the price and the 100kg weight limit(I'm a big bugger). I've also seen a few examples of "oversized" seats that have big wide heavily padded bum-wings, a narrower horn, and often a dip or vent in the middle to save you from a numb gooch, but unfortunately they all seem to come with built-in springs/elastomers and I'm pretty sure if I try and use that with my Thudbuster seatposts(which have far more travel than the piddly seat "suspension") it would get a bit wonky and start oscillating. Can anyone recommend a similar style of seat that just has regular unsprung mounting rails?

Keeping my bike safe outside in south east London

I have just moved into a small flat with a parking space, and I cycle to work (hence how I could afford a deposit, sorry tfl). If I get permission from the freeholder, is it a good idea to build a weighted bike box or shed on my parking space? I know it can't be permanent as I only have a leasehold, so I can't do any structural damage like drill in a bike rack...

Any recommendations for a safe way to store my bike without my lugging it into my hallway every day?

Recommendations welcome!

Broken clavicle on lime bike, wanting to claim.

I was thrown from a Lime bike in London after the rear wheel appeared to lock up. After the crash I noticed one rear axle bolt was missing and the wheel was not secured. I have photos and a witness, and I’ve been diagnosed with a displaced collarbone fracture. I am likely to have surgery next week. Has anyone experienced something similar or have advice on finding a solicitor experienced in bike defect claims?

I’ve heard about “lime leg” before and thought personal injuries against them may be common, but I’ve called five firms who said they either no longer take these claims on anymore or that it’s not serious enough as they only take on brain injury/spinal injury claims.

Thank you :)

First time buying an expensive-ish bike. What the hell are these things?

There are all sorts of detached bits including 4 pedals, bizarrely, so this is feeling like a little craft project. There are no instructions but I've been cycling for about 55 years and i can probabky work most of it out. But what, pray are these objects? (first two are just different views of the same thing, so only 3 objects in total)
