XC or Trail bike for London based cyclist?

Hello, I just came back from a bike tour that had some gravel sections. I enjoyed it but my road bike was definitely not the bike to do it on so I am looking to get into more gravel and off road riding. I tried gravel bikes and much prefer to have front suspension so looking to get a hardtail.

Question is should I go for a trail or xc bike?

I am not super flexible so I'm worried an xc bike would put me in an uncomfortable aggressive position (equivalent of a road race bike while I ride endurance bikes) but at the same time don't want to get a trail bike that would be quite sluggish.

Advice appreciated, thank you.

5'11 struggling with 377 reach, even with 70mm stem and 75mm reach handlebar, what's next? appreciate all feedback

Hey, so I am 5'11 (180 cm) and had a bike fit this spring. The bike fit recommended a trek domane al size 56 with a 70mm stem and 75mm reach drop handlebars. You can see the theme, of reducing the reach as much as possible.
However, I am still struggling with reach. My neck, upperback, and shoulders are so tense after each ride and my arms are tired. I thought about going for a 54, but the seat angle on those is usually steeper than the 56, while on the 56 I have my saddle slammed all the way back so I am not sure it's a good idea to go for a 54.

If you've been in this boat, or have any idea what to do/try next, please let me know. ta!

ps. I don't have a video of me riding hence why I didn't post of /bikefit

Avenue verte from London to Paris: where to stay?

Hiya, planning to do London to Paris via avenue verte in 2 weeks time and looking for recommendations on where to stay. Ideally I want to do it in 3 stages: London to Dieppe, then split Dieppe to Paris in 2 stages. What are your thoughts on the split?

same bike, one serviced last year and not ridden since, one ridden 4 times 3 years ago and never ridden since?

I found 2 of the same bike (model and colour), it's a trek domane. The bike that's not been ridden in 3 years is 50£ more, and the one serviced last year requires a new bar tape - what do you think? which one should I go for?

Anyone been using Redshift topshelf handlebar for a long time now?

Hey, I am looking for a long term review of the topshelf handlebar before I purchase one. It seems to solve my problem of most bikes with the right reach for me having a lower stack than what's comfortable for me. Does it work for you? Do you like it?

What bikes have similar geometry to the Trek Domane AL size 56?

My bike fitter recommended this bike after I put on some muscle from swimming and lifting and haven't maintained my flexibility and core strength. Problem is I don't like how the domane looks, not from a I want more aggressive position, just pure aesthetics. Very first world problem but I like to own a bike that looks good which makes me want to ride it more. So if you know bikes with similar geometry, please let me know. Ta!

The new law requires giving landlords 2 month notice, how are we meant to move when most flats advertised are available immediately?

I am trying to move out of my place. I had a contract with my landlord that says we can each give the other a month notice but to my understanding that's overruled by the new law and I now need to give my landlord 2 month notice. Looking at flats, almost all of them are available immediately or within a month max so what's the solution to secure a flat while not paying 2 rents and not giving my landlord a notice until I secure one? Just asking in case I am missing something, ta!

I recently had a bike fit and the measurements the fitter recommended leave me with 2-3 bikes that could fit me. They mentioned that my body is very sensitive to adjustments and the position that felt most comfortable was very upright and short. I am 31, and quite active, resistance training, swimming, martial arts etc. So I am wondering if there's anything I can do that would make me tolerate more aggressive positions and less sensitive to mm differences. Thank you

I am looking to get into MTB, as I am looking for a bit more dynamic form of exercise than road cycling, so thought to ask for what I need to consider before going down the rabit hole. thank you! I live in SE if that makes a difference.
