Most of Irminsul's functions were a bandaid solutions at the end of the War of Funerary Flames, Irminsul was never how the souls of the dead was processed after all, they used to go to the Moons. Kukulkan wondered how the Leylines were turned into shields against the Abyss as well. So I wonder which functions now remain and which don't. Nahida is indeed a new Tree and the Old one is not needed anymore.
