Only speak the target language

I’ve seen this one discussion in one community saying that tutors who teach a language only need to know how to speak the target language (besides ones that English).
They argue that English tutors (who are native) still can teach people from other countries without having to know that country’s language so why do they need to know English to teach their native language.
What is your opinion on this? Be straightforward

Cancel Trials (Students)

I’ve had 2 students just canceled their trials with me after me thanking them for being interested and asking for their learning needs. Did I do something wrong, I’ve just joined for more than a week and already had 2 canceled 😊.
The common thing between them is that they don’t fill out their learning needs and don’t read my message.

Students ghost me

Seriously, why?
I have this one girl who acted very interested in my class and sent me her personal contact, even live near me.
I told her to give her a call the next day because it was already 10PM then, and she said that’s perfect.
Then 1 hour before our scheduled call, I sent her a text asking if she would be able to pick up my call, no response.
3 hours later, I told her I supposed she was busy and didn’t give any call because I wasn’t sure if she was able to pick up.
5 hours later, I sent her a msg asking if our SCHEDULED trial class would still happen since I didn’t get to communicate with her.
I have to prepare for the trial as well and she even told me when she would want to start learning, but then just suddenly vanished into thin air.
All I can say is ‘Why?’. My msgs were not pushy, they were all friendly and professional. Getting ignored like this is not just unprofessional but also disrespectful.
I feel sorry for those who have been in the same situation.

Student reviews

Is it considered as rude if I ask students to leave me a review? They seem to enjoy my lessons so far but I just can’t ask them for one.

25 minutes trial?

I have a student who booked me immediately after viewing my profile and she didn’t have her learning needs filled which is…not quite usual for me. I sent a message to remind her but it got me thinking am I just one of her replacements 😂

Anyone interested to learn Vietnamese with a Saigonese?

I was born and raised in HCMC, have clear Southern accent and experience in teaching.

I'm currently teaching on Preply and I got my first student yesterday, we did a 50 minutes trial and he booked classes with me immediately after that which I am very grateful for. I'm here in hope that I can find more students to help them out, I'm very dedicated about every lesson I prepare and I'm confident that I'm good at explaining too. My English level is C1 and I can communicate very well in English, so getting you to understand my language (Vietnamese) is not a big deal to me.
However, I believe that the price I'm offering on Preply is very decent but my teaching hour is below 20 hours so the submission is very high (33%), so I'm left with nothing much.
So if you're interested, I can send you the link to my intro video that I have on Preply.

Need SO to join my trial class

I’ve just applied to be a Vietnamese tutor on Preply and I’m practicing for my trial class. If you’re interested, send me a message. I won’t charge any fees, just give me feedback on what I should improve.
I have Southern accent and live in HCMC.
It will only be around 30 minutes or maybe a little more! Thanks a lot
