Co-worker gave me an old Klein. It was handed down from three previous co-workers to him. It had beat down street tires and a deteriorating comfort seat on it as well as packing tape, grease, weeds, bug husks and other schmutz. Paint was 'Race Red' but now is a splotchy pink to red gradient which I'm totally fine with.
I put on new WTB's, and tubes. Cleaned it up a bit. Sourced a decent saddle from the company bike parts depot.
A work in progress so far but as is it rides great. Super stiff and precise, tracks amazing and it's pretty fast.
I think it's a transition era bike from when Klein sold to Trek and production moved from WA. to WIS. It has the top tube cable array.
Previous owners have upgraded it fairly well in general but we'll see how the M311 crank set does. Will have to pick up some seals for the fork also as they are dry and cracking.
I really want to get it into the dirt soon and see how it does.
Old Master #29.
6 months ago the company next door started doing construction and ever since I've had my eye on this thing. It was attached to one of their gates and has been rusting out for over 10 years. I could never find anyone to talk to about this thing until today when they started pulling them down. I went over and spoke to their foreman who let me have the lock and the gnarly chain it was attached to.
I'm gonna get it open and restore it a little bit for my collection. Seems to have a Schlage C core in it.
It's damn big, -a real heffalump.
