Has anyone made a switch from Mirtazipine (15mg) to Trazedone (50mg) with no taper?
My psychiatrist wants me to make the switch and recons it will be fine as the trazedone will just take the place of the Mirtazipine?
Has anyone here made the switch and if so how’d it go for you?
Has anyone else been prescribed trazedone for server anxiety? Any success’s stories?
Male. 40s. 15mg mirtazapine for the past 3 months. Severe anxiety and insomnia, slight depression.
New psych wants me to switch my 15mg mirtazipine for 100mg trazedone. Also adding in 0.5mg clonozapam 2-3 times a day.
The plan is to be on the clonozapam for a couple of months and then taper off by which time the trazedone should be managing the anxiety.
I’m scared of the direct switch from mirtazapine to trazedone with no taper. Will into get mirtazapine withdrawals and rebound insomnia? I’m currently getting 4 hours of sleep at best so I’m not keen on risking that!
I’m also scared of getting hooked on the clonozapam and having a rough taper off!
Am I right to be concerned or just overthinking it?
As per rule 1: male, 40s, white, 80kg.
History: Severe anxiety for 5 months, insomnia for 3 months. Diagnosis of GAD, mild depression, suspected ADHD.
Drug history: Started 25mg sertraline 3.75mg Zopiclone in May and immediate significant worsening of anxiety and insomnia. 5 days later saw a psychiatrist, was put on sertraline 50mg, Zopiclone 3.75mg, Mirtazapine 15mg and olanzapine 2.5mg bi daily (off label as a sedative). Saw GP 3 days later and was advised to come off all drugs except the Mirtazapine. For past 3 months have just taken 15mg Mirtazapine.
Current symptoms. Sever 24/7 anxiety. Insomnia sleeping circa 4 hours a night (early wakening).
New psychiatrists treatment plan. Stop Mirtazapine(no taper) and start Trazedone 50gm (increase to 100mg after a week) together with 0.5mg Clonazapam 2-4 times a day.
I’m concerned about withdrawals from the Mirtazipine, although I understand the plan is that the Trazadone will take its place.
I’m also concerned that it will be difficult to wean off the Clonazapam, which I understand I will be on for a couple of months, with the idea being that the Trazedone should manage the anxiety thereafter.
Thoughts welcomed….
I’ve been on 15mg mirtazipine for the past 3 months suffering from severe anxiety and insomnia.
My new psych wants me to switch to trazedone and stop the mirtazepine cold turkey. He says there is no need to taper the mirtazipine as the trazedone is replacing it. Is this a common approach?
He has also prescribed clonozapam, which I guess might take the edge off any withdrawals. But I’m still nervous…
Anyone else had this combination to treat anxiety and insomnia?
Apparently the idea is to tackle the anxiety with the clonazapam and then wean off in 1 to 2 months when the trazedone has taken effect.
My main concern is whether the trazedone will be effective for the anxiety, and whether I’ll actually be able to get off the colanazpam without severe withdrawals
Interested to hear others experiences of medication and its impact on their anxiety, be it ssris, benzos, antipsychotics or anything else…
My psychiatrist prescribed me 2.5mg olanzapine twice a day for anxiety with severe insomnia. To be taken alongside sirtraline, mirtazipine and Zopiclone. Took it for a few days in desperation before doing some research and getting scared and discontinuing.
I did feel a bit better for a couple of days but the anxiety was still there and sleep was better but still poor.
Has anyone taken a low dose antipsychotic long term for insomnia and anxiety? Did it help and were you ever able to taper off?
First mental health crisis here, being severe anxiety insomnia over the past couple of months. I’m currently sleeping 2-4 hours a night, taken leave from work, and spent the past couple of months doing not much but pacing around the house and worrying all day.
Psychiatrist suggesting 2.5mg olanzapine b/d, plus 15mg mirtazipine, 3.75mg Zopiclone, 50mg sertraline.
I’m scared by the amount of drugs, and by the olanzipine in particular having read nasty things about it online. Is olanzipine crazy in this situation?
I’ve got a long standing problem with anxiety that, after some stressful events, has ballooned into severe GAD and insomnia over the past couple of months. I’m currently sleeping 2-4 hours a night, taken leave from work, and spent the past couple of months doing not much but pacing around the house and worrying all day.

I’m not psychotic, but I am acutely unwell and I guess psychosis is a risk of if I can’t get my sleep under control.
