Why are Flexi-cap funds outshining all equity categories?

Why are Flexi-cap funds outshining all equity categories?

As per business standard, the month of May witnessed inflows of Rs 5176 crore and as per Economic Times, the month of April  has record Rs 10,147 crore inflows in April

So what is making Flexi Cap fund so much more popular than any other mutual fund category?

One reason can be that the investors are now  relying more on the fund managers to allocate between the market caps and not taking this call themselves..

Another reason might be because one can stay open to opportunities wherever they appear instead of being limited to one segment of the market.

And this is where Multi Cap Fund could fall behind, where at least 75% of their assets are in equity and equity related instruments.. In that as well, allocating at least 25% of its assets to large-cap stocks, 25% to mid-cap stocks and another 25% to small-cap stocks  is essential..As a result, there is very little flexibility for the fund manager to move across funds as when market changes..

On the other hand, flexi cap funds have a complete freedom to invest across all equity stocks.

Another testament to this is the report by AMFI data cited by Franklin Templeton India Mutual Fund, says that flexi cap funds recorded net inflows of ₹95,154 crore over the last 12 months through May 2026,

So in spite of knowing that there is  a possibility of a misalignment with the risk profile of certain investors, people are still prioritizing flexibility of funds rather than volitality.

Another reason might be offering a straightforward way to participate in the equity market for new investors. These new investors are willing to navigate market phases without sticking to a single style.

What are your investment insights about flexi cap funds? In which of the AMCs did you invest your into? I do have moderate risk appetite.. Ideally I feel investment horizon should be 7 years, isn’t it? My goal is wealth maximization. I have been using https://www.tatamutualfund.com/mutual-funds/tata-flexi-cap-fund-direct-growth because of its good performance alongside Nifty 500 benchmark.

I saw that these two investments have been doing good consistently..one is Tata Flexi Cap Fund and the other is Bank of India Flexi Cap Fund.

Is there any difference between flexi cap mutual fund and balanced advantage mutual fund? Or are they just the same with different names?

While coming across flexi cap mutual funds, I saw that a balanced advantage fund was being recommended by people for someone having a low to moderate risk appetite..
For a long time, I believed that these two are exactly the same until I read about it on the Internet..

Talking about Flexi cap, these mutual funds allocate 65% of the asset investment in equity and equity related instruments.. while they could offer potential growth returns, there is a high risk and volatility since majority of the stake is in equity.. Looking at its average returns.. the Groww website shows 15.17%

On the other hand, a balanced advantage fund invests in a mix of equities and debt and its allocation is adjusted actively between 30-80% equity based on markets. Since it has exposure to debt as well, the overall risk also reduces when compared to flexi cap mutual funds..
But if we look at the returns, the average returns of a balanced advantage fund is comparatively low.

Also another name for a balanced advantage fund is Dynamic Asset Allocation Mutual Funds.
Average returns on Balanced Advantage Funds are 12% as per Groww.

so what would be your recommendations regarding choosing between balanced advantage fund and flexi cap fund if these are someone’s allocation details..

Risk appetite- moderate
Investment goal- wealth creation
Investment horizon- 5 years
Allocation details- ₹ 3000 SIP
Which app/ website do you use? Official website of Tata Mutual Fund and Groww
Why this among everything else?- good reputation and good legacy

Are you still buying physical gold when Gold ETFs exist?

hii guys..I wanted your insights to understand that if someone is looking to invest ₹ 5000 in gold for portfolio diversification only ..is gold ETF a good option in recent times..

Nowadays physical Gold is being purchased as only part of cultural significance, to gift someone or as for inheritance.. and I see that Gold ETFs are predominantly making up for investment purposes.

Another reason why Gold ETFs might be preferred could be because they don't have a concern about its purity as they are backed by standardized 99.5% pure gold. Convenience also plays a very important role where gold ETFs have complete digital evidence of the purchases.. while sometimes, physical gold could be just kept in lockers and no one would even have any idea about it.

Now, looking at price differences between the two..one would ideally choose a Gold ETF as it comparatively price efficient when compared to physical gold.. Just to give an example of the same here is the NAV movement of Tata Gold Exchange Traded Fund with respect to domestic physical gold prices

source- Tata mutual fund Factsheet

Also, purchasing gold means incurring GST charges as well as making charges, and on the other hand, a Gold ETFs charges a relatively small annual expense ratio for managing the fund.

as I conclude, i wanted to look at returns which gold ETFs have been generating and these were the results

source- dhan website

while on groww, there was different ranking

I shall come up with few more insights on another aspects as well..

Meanwhile, what are your insights about Gold ETFs? Are you purchasing them or not and if yes what are your top Gold ETFs investments?

Confused between choosing flexi cap and multi cap fund? On what basis should I choose?

Hello friends, saved some money which i got from friends and family on various occasions.. i am thinking about investing in mutual funds, either in flexi cap or multi cap..but i am confused on which one to select..

Since it’s a gift money, i dont mind the risk of the fund.. so should i be opting for flexi cap, so that i maximize the most of the returns while also having a flexible portfolio to adjust market volatility.

Or should I go for a multi cap fund? So that at least, I get good diversification with a pre-defined allocation strategy.

also, i saw that multi cap had more average returns than that of flexi cap fund..
