Question about WW2 Japanese war crimes

My grandma’s death anniversary was a few days ago so i was thinking about her, but I was also reminded of her stories about WW2. Im not sure if these stories are true or not.

I was probably 9 or 10 when i first heard her stories. My step grandpa survived the bataan death march and Grandma told me that the Japanese soldiers used long metal wires and used it to pierce through my grandpa’s (and other POW’s) hands so they can all be “attached” together. This was done because according to her, a lot of soldiers managed to escape before reaching the prisoner camp.

She also told me a story about japanese soldiers killing pregnant women, cutting the belly and removing the fetus, then one soldier would toss the fetus to the air while another soldier is holding a sword pointing up, impaling the fetus in the process.

Dublin, I need to apologize.

Mods, pls kindly approve this post.

Earlier I made a post about the tipping culture in Dublin, but I made a mistake with how i phrased the sentence, which made it seem like my undersranding is that Dublin is part of the UK. English is not my first language and sometimes I make grammar or spelling mistakes. Sometimes i forget to add punctuations, and it completely screws up my sentence. Sometimes i screw up when using has/had/have, but at least i know how to properly use there/their/they’re.

I’m terribly sorry to everyone, i know that Dublin is not part of the UK. Please, I ask kindly to forgive me. I know the what the Evil British Empire did, I know what Cromwell and Friends did. I know about the famine and what happened during the war of independence. Now, I dont claim to know everything, but i know enough to realize that i effed up so im sincerely apologizing to all Irish Nationalists, living or dead.

Tipping Culture in Dublin, as observed by a Canadian

Posting it here coz the mods at r/irishtourism deleted it.

Today is day 3 of our visit and I’ve noticed that so far all the restaurants that we visited have a pre-set tip percentage of 10 or 12%, 15%, 20%, and 30%. It’s very similar to North America, where it creates some awkwardness of you pressing “no tip” while the server is beside you looking at the screen. It’s not something that I’ve seen in other European cities. So far I’ve visited cities in Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, France, and in other parts of UK (London, Edinburgh, Glasgow) in the past 3 years.

How do locals feel about this? While we North Americans are used to tipping in restaurants, there’s been an increased frustration in Canada recently because a lot of food places that dont have table service started adding a pre-set tip option. Do you guys just ignore it and just refuse to tip?

So far we’re enjoying our stay here, and the people have been great (drunk Irish alcoholics dont faze me, my dad trained me well).

MBNA: terrible “security” feature

This is probably the worst credit card that I’ve ever used, “security” wise. I have heard a ton of excuses from them; they say that certain purchases get blocked because of “unusual” websites or locations, but I got blocked while paying for gas 20km away from my house, and at a popular fast food chain 200 meters away from my house! I’ve had this card since June and I’ve had more than 20 declined charges.

I’ve also been told my the customer support agent that it’s “better” to pay using the physical card rather than through Apple Pay, but that is just plain wrong. Using apple pay means you’re not divulging your credit card info to the merchant, theres no chance of credit card skimming, and biometrics is more secure than using a pin code. If you use your physical card to pay, the merchant will have your credit card number, expiry, cvv, and shopping analytics. incompetence is astounding.

Prior to this card I’ve used a PC Mastercard for 11 years and I’ve had less than 5 issues with them, and an RBC Visa for 23 years with probably 2 issues. The rewards are ok, but they’re actually making it difficult for me to spend my money. If you’re looking into getting a new credit card, I suggest you look elsewhere.

What happened to this tree?

We’ve had this tree for maybe around 4 years, but this summer the top part of the tree did not grow any leaves. Do I need to cut it? We keep this tree in out enclosed patio during wintertime, then it goes back out early to mid spring.

I got this San Martin SN0128 waffle dial five days ago for $245, and I’ve been wearing it every day. The links were super easy to remove, it comes in a nice leather-like case, and it is flawless. The lume is excellent, the dial is unique, and the bezel is satisfying to play with. You can easily loosen or tighten it with the quick-adjust bracelet.

If I had to be super picky and point out an 'issue,' I would say that the bracelet could be a little smoother, but I wouldn't say that it’s sharp.
