Rolling Retirement Spreadsheet?

I’m trying to map out, year by year, my income & expenses, post-retirement.

Obviously this picture will change as I become eligible to withdraw from 401k, Soc Sec and apply for Medicare.

I’m wondering if anyone had a spreadsheet that is built to track this changing picture across a 20-30 year stretch? Pretty sure I can build one (I think), but wanted to see if anything is already out there.

Thanks.

Sabian HHX Complex Performance Pack Initial Thoughts

Been playing this pack for a few days and here’s what I’ve noticed.

22” Medium Ride: The Star of the show. Gorgeous cymbal that I will never part with. Exactly what I wanted for my money. Sticking. Crashing. Bell. All perfect.

19” Thin Crash: Not bad. Aspects of it are perfect. It’s lush and expressive. (Edit to add) I’ve been playing this crash all day and I really love it. I want to get my full kit set up and experiment with some secondary voices to go along with it. I picked up a 20” Meinl Classics Custom Dual Crash that might do the trick. I hear a gonginess in the cymbal when I lay into it, very similar to what I hear from a 17” HH Thin Crash I have that’s prob ten years old. It’s a springy gong sound that starts at the bottom of the frequency range and spreads into the middle. I’d written it off on the 17” HH as it just being the result of it being a smaller crash, so I’ve never really played it; it didn’t sit with my A Customs very well. Maybe I just need to change up what I’m expecting to hear from nicer, more complex cymbals?

15” Medium Hats: Far brighter than I want them to be. They’re beautiful hats on their own, but in the context of this pack, they don’t really work. I want darker, drier, thinner hats in the context of this ride and crash. The top end of these medium hats is almost living in A or A Custom territory. Beautiful, but too much for the setup. The pack could have used a set of thin HHX Complex Dry Hats…if such a thing existed. These will probably be the first to go. Gonna try to tape ‘em up and see if I can dry them out appropriately. But that doesn’t change the weight of them. Thinner hats would fit in with the feel of the rest of the cymbals better. The medium weight of these puts them in a strange place in the mix when played with the others. Just like any new instrument, there’s a learning curve, so I’m gonna give these the time they deserve.

Lemme have it. I just threw some shade on a cymbal pack that I’ve heard only amazing things about.

Sabian’s recent AAX cymbals are beautiful!

I’ve picked up a newer AAX 21” thin ride and a set of 15” AAX medium hats recently and they both sound fantastic. I know the hats are brilliant finish, and the ride seems like it is too. Got ‘em used.

I’ve been playing a cobbled together set of A Custom crashes forever and a 21” Paiste 2002 “Ride.” Was looking for something thinner and darker, so I picked up that thin ride for a great price and was blown away at how beautiful it is. Very crashable with great wash under the sticking, and the bell is perfect. Lovely cymbal that has a very mellow top end. By comparison, I have a 22” Zildjian A Medium Ride that sounds like a ZBT cymbal next to this Sabian; gongy and strident in its top end. Not fun to play at all. The AAX comes across like a jazz ride if you’re easy with it.

The hats are the same. They shimmer but the top end isn’t glassy and brittle, which I know some medium hats can have. It’s a modern take on that vibe where I think players want the cut but it needs to be musical.

I was in a local shop yesterday and they had an 18” AAX thin crash that was also so damn beautiful. Like an A Custom but with the top end of the EQ rolled off a little to warm it up. I’d put up those 15” medium hats, the 21” thin ride and the 18” thin crash and go play literally anything. Nicely done, Sabian.

First gen 4k AppleTV (Model A1842) simply won’t power on.

Thing has been a workhorse for 9 solid years. Simply won’t power on all of a sudden. I guess that’s how tech dies.

Unplugging and plugging it back in after a minute does nothing.

Any other things I can try?

Sabian AAX Thin Ride

Been sheddin’ for a small acoustic gig coming up, and I used it as an excuse to pick up some new plates.

I’ve been playing a 21” Paiste 2002 Ride from the ‘80s forever, and I love that thing, but I wanted something thinner, warmer and more crashable for this gig.

Found a used 21” Sabian AAX Thin Ride and gave it a shot. I really like this cymbal! It’s warm and delicate, great colors. It rides well, the bell is gorgeous and it crashes exactly like I wanted it to. I’ve got a single moon gel on there to quiet it down a bit, but it’s so musical, it doesn’t need much.

Paired with my 16” thin crashes as hi-hats (both 1000g), the dark cymbal vibes are perfect.

Here’s a pic of my wee setup I’ll be using.
