I really wish there was a Godsmack removal mod.

I decided to do a replay of the Sands trilogy, just finished SoT and it's still very good. But moving into WW, I got into the first Dahaka chase and there's the opening riff of "I Stand Alone." Now I actually like a bit of Godsmack from time to time, and I don't mind the shift to the grungy heavy metal aesthetic (though I do prefer the look of the other games in the series). But when that riff spun up I had to stop.

I was an edgy teenager when WW came out, the exact demographic they were aiming for. Yet, even back then I felt that adding contemporary licensed music into a historical action game was desperate. Today it's basically like getting smacked in the face with the "how do you do fellow kids" meme, and it's actually hard to take the game seriously after every chase section. Which is a shame because I actually like most of the original music they did.

I have no problem going back and playing games that are, for better or worse, products of their time. I don't have any problem with Splinter Cell using Crystal Method's "Name of the Game" or Doom3's flashlight mechanics. But the use of Godsmack in WW really bugs me. I think it's the fact that it's in the gameplay itself instead of just being used for the trailer or the end credits. Really just takes me out of the experience.

Have they said when they are going to do more Resident Evil?

They said several times that Spencer wanted to do RE9, but it's been like 5 months since they did the big "Spencer Explains the RE Lore" video. I figured they would have wanted to jump on that when RE9 was coming out but that time has passed.

I don't follow the socials or anything like that, have they said anything about more RE playthroughs?

You take the wins where you can.

I've been banging the drum of game preservation for years, and it seems like Sony's recent move (as well as the SKG initiative) has finally awoken people to the reality of just how insecure their games libraries are. There's a bright side to making people more aware, I think.

When did the shift happen?

I'm watching BTAS for the first time since I was a child, and I'm constantly struck by how often he struggles in ways you would never expect from a modern portrayal of the character. He's consistently straining to defeat random goons, getting caught in traps, or just falling off buildings since this predated his cape gliding.

It makes me wonder when the change occurred that made him the best fighter who is so far ahead of everyone else that he has a contingency plan for every scenario. The Batgod I've seen it referred to. I really can't see BTAS Bats doing most of what I've seen him do in later movies like Batman vs Robin or Hush.

Hear Me Out

I think Lara Croft and Bruce Wayne would make for an interesting couple. They have a lot in common right off the bat (pun not intended):

  • They were both born into wealthy families
  • Both lost their parents at a young age
  • They both have incredibly dangerous and violent hobbies
  • They both have loyal butlers
  • Both are hot as hell

The Tomb Raider comics from Top Cow in the 90s frequently had Lara crossing over with their other heroes like Sara Pezzini and Jackie Estacado, the latter of which had a crossover in which he went to Gotham and had a bit of dust up with the Bat. This confirms they exist in the same universe. It would be easy to imagine them meeting at some high society function neither one wants to attend.

But it's not just about their similarities. The have potential for some real Odd Couple shenanigans. For instance:

  • Batman will go to extreme lengths to ensure he doesn't kill, while Lara has no qualms with it
  • Bruce is a bit of homebody, he likes to hang around Gotham and terrorize the criminal element. While Lara frequently jets all around the world and causes havoc in everyone else's backyard
  • They are both far too wrapped up their individual pursuits to ever get into anything serious.

Ultimately I think it would be a short lived fling, Bruce wouldn't be OK with the amount of casual murder our Ms. Croft gets up to, and there are far too many shiny things hidden in the world for Lara to spend any real time in a hellhole like Gotham.

What do you think? Would these two get along? Would Lara integrate well with the Bat Family? Would Alfred end up locked in the freezer?

This post was inspired by finding out that the above comic is a thing that exists, and I really want to know why she's robbing his family crypt, if you have the answer please let me know.

Is there a way to remove counter indicators in Asylum?

Yes I know about Hard difficulty, I'm specifically asking for a way to remove them while playing on Normal.

With Origins you can simply disable hints and that gets rid of the icons, and I found mods for both City and Knight. But I can't find any way to do the same for Asylum.
