Cracked LCD/glass on Anycubic Photon Mono M5s Pro after residue detection — exposure test still works, is it safe to print or should I replace the screen?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a second opinion on my Anycubic Photon Mono M5s Pro.
I recently had a print stop with a “residue detected” warning. After using vat cleaning and taking everything apart, I found that there had been resin under the vat area. Luckily I had a screen protector installed.
However, after cleaning everything, I noticed what looks like a small crack/chip in the actual LCD/glass area, not just the screen protector. The area also looks slightly grey/cloudy. I don’t think it’s just leftover resin, but I’m not 100% sure.
I ran an exposure test afterwards and the test pattern still appears normally. The screen seems to light up correctly and the printer still works from the menu.
My questions are:
Is it safe to keep printing if the exposure test still looks fine?
Or should I stop using the printer and replace the LCD/screen?
Could this crack get worse or allow resin to get into the screen?
Has anyone continued printing with a small chip/crack like this, or is that a bad idea?
I’m mainly printing tabletop miniatures, and I’m worried that a tiny cured resin piece or brittle failed support caused pressure on the film/screen.
Thanks a lot for any advice.
