Collections is Customer Service

I’m Julia Freedom. I’ve had years of success in the collections industry, both retail and commercial. What I’ve found is taking a kind and helpful approach with debtors works! You don’t have to go with guns a blazin’ threatening people to garnish their bank account or their paycheck-that is where you loose people. If they could afford to pay their bills, they would. Something changed for them and obviously their business isn’t producing enough revenue at the moment.

Frame your follow-up as helping the
the client clear an outstanding administrative hurdle. Invoices get lost in cluttered inboxes, and accounting teams make mistakes. Approaching
the situation with helpful curiosity removes defensive barriers.

Try a Sales Driven Approach in Collections

Instead of coming on strong to collect, try coming in with the sales approach. Collections is simply a sales call in reverse. On a
sales call, you sell a solution. On a collection call, you sell the relief of
resolving a problem and the massive value of preserving a professional relationship.
