What to expect for the first week with our puppy?

We are welcoming a dachshund in the next 2 weeks and are so excited - we already have the crate and playpen set up. It's been a long time since I've had a pup and my partner has never had once.

What can we expect? I've already said that one of us will more than likely have to sleep on the couch and bring the crate beside it for the first few nights and to expect lots of whining/crying. But what about toilet breaks? How do I know when to let puppy outside to pee/poo? Or should I just let them go on the pads?

How many nights did it take your pup to settle?

I have inherited a beautiful dining table from a friend of a friends grandmother, it won't be in my physical possession for a few days and I'm just trying to prepare and educate myself on what to expect with trying to freshen it up.

I'm not looking to perfectly restore it, but I would like to make it look as good as I can! If you have any tips, advice or other subs to look at please send them my way. Also if I'm crazy in thinking I can fix this up myself, please also tell me because I would be so upset if I did irreparable damage. The armrest on one isn't attached anymore, other than that I believe it just needs to be sanded/varnished/recoated ( I have no idea what I'm talking about).

From my research it is Chiswell, we are in Australia. I was told it was bought around 1980.

I am knitting this scarf and following the pattern but I can help but notice the stitch count in the pattern isn't matching the picture at all. The pattern says cast on 18 stitches, 4 rows of rib stitch then seed stitch.

To me this looks wider than 18 across and I can count 6 rows of rib stitch? I'm a total novice so I'd appreciate someone else's input!
