Finally found a use for this broken vintage kettle!!

Just blew my own mind with this knitting hack! I'm so glad I finally found a use for this broken vintage kettle I've refused to get rid of lol.

Sushi socks

Proud moment as someone who started knitting in Feb 2025. I was recently enjoying some sushi (which I often do) and thought I wonder if anyone has designed a cute sushi sock knitting pattern? And when I searched I really couldn't find what I was looking for, so I set out try to to design my own.

I loved how it turned out and felt like others might love them too. So here I am about 10-12 weeks later having gone through testing, grading and tech edit with my little creation.

I hope these fun socks can put a smile on some faces, even if the design is not really your thing (I know it's going to be a bit niche).

I also apologise if I haven't done the correct flair/tags in view of this being my own pattern. I couldn't see the 'Designer FO' flair that was suggested in group rules.

Pattern: Sushi Socks

Designer: Jen Grey - Between the Stitches (myself)

All the LYS's are closed on Mondays...

A light hearted rant...

My yarn for my first raglan sweater (one skein to see if it's a good match for the pattern) is in my mailbox... I have two local-ish LYS near me (one further is 45 min) and all three are closed today... I need two size needles I don't have...

I may be considering an interchangable set sooner then later .... LOL...

What other hobbies do you do?

I love knitting. Knitting is life! I don’t ever get bored of it.

That being said, my therapist suggested I pick up additional hobbies to “keep my brain as busy as possible”. She made a few suggestions, none of them really appealed to me. I thought this might be a good community to ask and could lead to an interesting discussion!

My current other hobbies include reading and doing my own nails. What do you like to do besides knitting?

Suggestions for my wife's birthday?

Hello all, my wife's birthday is coming up in about a week and I would love some input on what to get her to help her knitting! She really wants a project bag because she is just using a reusable shopping bag to hold all her yarn and stuff in. I was wondering if you all had any recommendations for that? Or what are some pieces of equipment or things that you wish you had for when you first started knitting? She has just started her first color work project and she has been knitting for a couple years if that helps to narrow down equipment recommendations! Please let me know if this is the wrong place to post this and I can take it somewhere else!

The very famous fox cardigan

Hi guys- I think I made the sleeves a little too narrow- oops

I think I'll try knitting some extra stuff and just patch it in. Maybe in orange. I'm usually more of a perfectionist so I wanted all my mistakes to stay there and be visible.

The color work part made me fall in love with knitting. In the meantime I made a Minecraft themed mini-project (I was waiting for the other yarn to arrive)

I'd like to know if you also think if the sleeves are a bit tight because I generally don't trust my own judgement. :')

THANKSSS!

(Wool is 80%Polyacryl 20%Wool blend. Reason: First thing I found at the store that felt comfy - this is my first project (I think you can see 🙈)

Pattern is the famous Mary Maxim Wolf Cardigan, some own adjustments with inspo from leannade on ravelry)

Summer socks!

The actual pattern is Hazel shorties by Ducathi but for the instep pattern, I decided to simplify to something simpler to accentuate to the stripes. Other mods include decreasing out from original cast on size (slightly larger than I would normally do) to my standard sock stitch amount after the heel.

Some new construction techniques I learned:
- foldover cuff with short-row heel tab (amazing and way easier than I thought)
- the „ducathi“ heel construction which was also quite cool and complemented the yarn!

Influencers teaching knitting

This is probably a silly thing to get annoyed about, and if it’s not appropriate for here I’ll delete it, but this really gets under my skin when I see it for some reason.

I’ve just come across a video of an influencer I’ve followed for a long time (usual niche is lifestyle/fashion) talking about how she’s picked up knitting over the last year and now she’s hosting workshops to teach others how to knit. It’s not the first time I’ve seen someone online with less than a years’ experience with knitting suddenly posting how-to videos or feeling qualified to be teaching, but every time I find it a bit baffling! Especially because sometimes they get things wrong or don’t fully understand what they’re saying and need to be corrected in the comments, which just adds confusion.

Having close to 7 years of knitting under my belt and a good amount of knowledge, I personally would not feel qualified to teach in any sort of formal setting (of course I’ve taught friends informally to get them started or helped troubleshoot their projects). It just feels like a staggering amount of overconfidence to go from novice to self proclaimed teacher in a year, but maybe some people really do pick up skills super fast and feel confident enough to do that?

My personal view is that whilst anyone should feel proud of their work and free to document/share their experience/journey/lessons along the way, to position yourself as a teacher or expert when you are very new to the craft is a bit misleading and could lead other newbies wrong. I also wonder whether it creates confusion about who in the online knitting community really has the expertise to back up their platform, rather than taking advantage of the more recent hype for knitting.

Has anyone else seen this online? Do you feel similarly or am I being weird? I know I’ve probably overthought this and will likely delete anyway, but interested to see if anyone has had similar thoughts.

Lace Swatch Help!

I’m planning on knitting Jessie Mae’s Petite Pointelle Tank. I completed my swatch yesterday and I’d love some advice on how to proceed.

The pattern includes specific instructions for a swatch and what size it has to be. So I knit up that swatch, using the exact needle size and yarn recommendation, but my gauge is off. When blocking it, I stretched it out to the size prescribed in the pattern. Picture of my blocked swatch included. I think my tension is too tight, so I think the “stockinette” parts of my swatch look too stretched out at this size. So I’m trying to figure out what my next move should be.

- Do I go up in needle size? This swatch was knit with US4 needles. I’m thinking maybe I should go up to US6 needles?
- Do I go up in pattern size? I could make one pattern size up. But then I’d worry about how the fabric would drape since my tension is off.
- Am I overthinking this? Does my swatch actually look fine and not overly stretched and I should just continue with this size needle and garment size?

Another thing I’m trying to figure out is if I have enough yarn to knit up another swatch on bigger needles. I think I might not. I have 656 yds of yarn. The pattern calls for up to 575 if I stay at my current size, or up to 625 if I size up. I’m assuming the yarn recommendations in the pattern does not account for swatching. Based on my queationable math, my swatch is about 15 yds already. So am I playing too much yarn chicken if I make a second swatch?? I guess I can always frog a swatch. But since this is a lace pattern I would want to block it… can I reuse blocked yarn?

Any advice welcome as I am clearly overthinking this 😂

I finished my first tee and now I feel unstoppable

I made the Maritime tee by Trine Brøndum Nordholt! Done in Yarnart Rosegarden color 311 - I used the opposite end of the cake as the contrast color because I wanted the gradient to disappear near the bottom of the tee.

Yes I realized halfway that the pattern was for DK, not fingering weight... yes it's 50% cotton so the gauge of the whole garment grew after washing... Yes I would absolutely do it again, it was so fun and the FO is so cute 🥹

Please don't look at the floats inside the armpit area lmao 🥹

I am accepting more tee recommendations!!

Yarn help for first sweater

I’m starting my first sweater and am feeling overwhelmed by picking yarn. It’s the Foolproof sweater from Wemadewardrobe and the pattern suggests “cloud” by Lang Yarns with “Zen” by Lang Yarns OR “Promise” by Wooladdicts by Lang Yarns with “Mohair Luxe” by Lang Yarns OR (much cheaper) “Air” by Drops with “Brushed Alpaca Silk” by Drops. I’m curious which yarns people think I should go with and which ones would be best for longevity and comfort. I have sensitive skin and don’t want anything that will feel too itchy. I’ve knitted several hats and scarves and my mom is an intermediate knitter I’d say who will be helping me a bit. The Drops lines looks to be the most budget friendly but I’ve seen some reviews saying they don’t last very long.

Bind Off Problems

I guess I need to work on my bind off?!

These are the Penny Gloves by petite Knit. Overall I’m very happy with them, but about to start the second glove and wondering how I can avoid this next time.

The pattern was for the last row to be all purls, then to ‘bind off knit wise’. I jut followed the basic knit wise bind off instructions I find on YouTube, I’ve bound off other things and not had this issue.

Any tips?

I've finished my first project EVER!

Yes, I know this is far from perfect. I've been crocheting for 16 years, so I'm used to my work being pretty polished. This was... Humbling lol

Either way, I'm happy with the result! Before this, I had only made a rectangle that my cat claimed as her blankie.

I didn't follow any pattern. Just watched a bunch of videos about knitting in the round, decreases, ribbing and started from there. I think it helped me understand a lot of the basics of knitting!

Blocked half finished sweater - dye bleeding and yarn colour change 😢

I've been knitting a jumper for the last month and just finished the body, I thought I'd give it a quick block to check the length/fit. I block in lukewarm water and a nice wool wash, leave it for 30 minutes and I see a heap of grey dye has run out into the water and when I pull the sweater out it's gone really pink 😭

The yarn is a blend of wool and recycled sari silk and I can only assume the sari silk has bled while the grey dye wasn't properly set and immediately all washed out...

I've contacted the yarn seller and I'm waiting for a reply, I don't even know if I want a refund or anything but I definitely didn't want a pink sweater! I loved the grey with speckles so much and I'm just so disappointed...

The most annoying thing is I did a gauge swatch and blocked it and I didn't have any issues with bleeding at all!! And I can't tell if the sleeves are going to do the same thing and if the colour is even going to match at the end??

Edit: the lighting of the photo isn't great, the pink is much brighter than it seems 😢

So I made this.

I was originally intending it to be a pillowcase but it didn't work out, it wasn't big enough and plus when I sewed the ends together it had one wave cut in half so it didn't turn out right, but it ended up fitting like a tube top! I don't like the placement of the rainbow now that it's a shirt and not a pillowcase. I could also just detach the ends and make it a pretty table runner?? Idk what do y'all think? I kind of hate it kind of love it but don't know what to do with it. Should I add shoulder straps? A halter strap? Help lol. This is my second completed project, the first being a blanket (pic attached of the blanket too just for fun 😊) (blanket isn't blocked yet and probably never will be cause I don't have the materials or know how to do it and took over a year to make so I don't want to risk fucking it up 😭)

And last photo is what I'm working on now, using almost the same pattern as the rainbow top, I wanted a tube top but with better colors and a little more texture so thats what I'm making now, using the same exact measurements to fit just like the rainbow piece.

(White yarn I don't know the name of, it was donated to me. Pattern is fan and feather. Rainbow yarn is from Michael's can't remember the name. The blanket is Caron Big Cake self striping yarn and the pattern is the shaker rib pattern found on the inside of the yarn label. And the one I'm working on now is fan and feather pattern, Caron big cake self striping yarn)

I finished my brothers sweater in mini size ✌🏼☺️

I made my brother his favorite sweater (that I thrifted for him years back) in mini size, because he and his wife are having a baby soon.
I had to choose colors and make the charts based off a photo, but I think it turned out really good :)
He was so happy and surprised 💛
Probably one of my favorite projects I’ve made in my knitting life!

Made a duck for my baby

My first finished knitted project. So extremely proud, and it came out adorable. Hoping my kid takes to this as their lovey.

Pattern is Nanna the Lady Duck by Cinthia Vallet in her book, Mouche & Friends.

Yarn is Isager Sock yarn (Fingerling / 40% Alpaca, 40% Wool, 20% Nylon) in Leaf and Desert Rock colors.

I learned how to knit and crochet from my LYS through soo many classes. Major shout-out to my neighbor who helped with all my questions as well.
