Auto insurance broker recommendations? Mine dropped the ball on my policy- badly.

I’m looking for some insurance broker recommendations.

A bit about me:

  • I’m a young driver.
  • This is my first vehicle.
  • I’m the only driver on the policy.

I’m currently insured with Aviva through Regal Insurance. I actually like Aviva and have no issues with the insurance company itself; my frustration is with my broker.

I recently found out I was never offered accident forgiveness as an option, and I also discovered my policy doesn’t include rental vehicle coverage even though the original paperwork indicated that it would. Overall, I feel like my policy wasn’t reviewed thoroughly and that important coverage options weren’t explained to me.

So I’m wondering:

  • Is there a broker/agent at Regal Insurance that you’d highly recommend?
  • If you think I should switch brokerages altogether, which brokerage do you recommend, and is there a specific broker/agent there that you’ve had a great experience with?

I’m looking for someone knowledgeable, responsive, and who actually takes the time to explain all of my coverage options rather than just setting up the policy.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences. TIA!

Hit and Run in Toronto

This week, I was involved in my first car accident- and of all things, it was a hit-and-run.

I commute to Toronto for college, so I’m not very familiar with TPS or how their process works. Thankfully, the entire incident was captured on my dashcam, and I’ve already submitted the footage as evidence. The video clearly shows the driver’s licence plate.

It was obvious he was at fault. I was driving straight when he suddenly sideswiped me, hard enough that my vehicle was pushed into both his car and the concrete barrier. Instead of stopping, he immediately sped off. I was so shocked that all I could do was pull over and call 911. I genuinely couldn’t believe what had just happened.

When I went to the Collision Reporting Centre, the officer only asked me one question: “How do you have his plate number?” I explained that my dashcam captured it, and he simply replied, “Okay, submit the video to us.”

That was literally the entire conversation.

I asked whether the driver would be charged and what the next steps would be. The response I got was: “We’ll send a letter, and if officers see the vehicle, they’ll pull him over and speak with him.”

…That’s it?

This driver nearly caused a deadly collision, knowingly fled the scene, and left me dealing with the aftermath. I expected there would at least be an officer attending his residence, issuing charges, or taking some kind of immediate action. To be honest, I was surprised by how casual the response seemed.

So I’m curious, what actually happens in situations like this? Has anyone gone through something similar? Will I ever know the outcome of this case?

I’m incredibly grateful that I wasn’t injured, but it’s frustrating knowing that someone can hit another vehicle, flee the scene, and seemingly continue driving around as if nothing happened. Why are we allowing drivers like this to remain on the road until they potentially hurt/kill someone else?

Forensic Registration Full?

I recently made the decision to switch into the Forensic Identification program for the May intake after being advised that there were still seats available and that I was eligible to begin in the Spring term. However, when I went to register, I noticed that every core course aside from FID 5000 appears to already be full.

I’m quite concerned, as I’m worried this may prevent me from properly starting the program this term despite already being accepted. I’m just confused about how the program could still be accepting students if there are not enough available seats in the required classes.

Could someone please provide some reassurance or clarification on whether additional seats or accommodations are typically made for newly admitted students in this situation? I would also really appreciate guidance on who I should speak with as soon as possible to resolve this before the semester begins.

TIA!
