Best degree to go with A&P?

Wondering what degree goes best with an A&P if you wanted to eventually move into a management position at an airline after turning wrenches for a while. I'm still young, and already have my airframe, and about to get my powerplant in a few months. Right now I'm majoring in Mechanical Engineering but don't really see a point since I could be making more money right now as a mechanic, and I've only done one year of mech e.

I don't want to be an AMT my whole life, and would like to move up to a management position within my career, and would like to try and get my degree right now. Would aviation administration be a good choice? especially since I heard your A&P counts for a year or two of college. Or would something more general like accounting, finance, or MBA be better. Also, the work load matters too since I'm trying to work full time while doing part time college. Thank you

Hey guys,

I'm an 18 year old still in A&P school, and have already achieved my airframe license, and am on track to getting my powerplant in the summer of this year. My reason for coming on here today is to ask if there is really a point in a college degree after getting an A&P. My goal right now is to try and get into a regional, then try and breakthrough into a major. If everything goes right, I would be a 19-20 year old mechanic making an 80k salary.

However, this makes me wonder if I should even pursue college right now, as I know entry level mechanical engineering jobs are around 60-70k, and by the time i'd be done with my degree (around 23-24), if I would've just sticked with being an AMT since I was 19 with all the pay raises, I would well be making more than 6 figures.

I'm about to finish my first year off college as a mech e major, but with struggling between balancing classes and my a&p school, my gpa hasn't been the greatest. The only reason i choice mech e is because i thought my knowledge from aviation would transfer into mechanical due to me being good with my hands, not because I had dreams of being an engineer. I also was under the impression I would make more, but after doing some more research I see how much more I'd make as an AMT.

So what are your guys opinions on this? Is there any high-paying jobs which utilize both my A&P and a mechanical engineering major? Also- I wouldn't want to be an amt my whole entire life and would rather move up into the business side of things, so at that point would an aviation management or business degree be worth it?
