A demo track I recorded at my gf's place I recorded on Ableton.

I have been spending a significant amount of time at my gf's house and have gotten her into recording (I'm an audio engineer and she has an interest in what I do) so I decided, for the both of us (but mostly me lol) to set up a really basic rig on her PC so she could fiddle around.

I got Ableton lite, bought a cheap license, downloaded the free trial of FL Studio (it saves and exports, ya just can't re-open saved projects) and got a copy of Amphub (which I think is an outstanding amp emulator), and bought a super cheap Focusrite Scarlett Solo off of FB Marketplace for $50 which he threw an a free XLR that reeked of cat piss lol (easily remedied)

All in all, it's a really noisy interface, and took a LOT of troubleshooting to get working, but it works for a basic starter rig. So, as a demo project, I whipped together this track to kinda illustrate to her what it can do... And it kinda slaps.

Note : This is completely unmixed, unmastered, and most of the tracks are scratch and are placeholders for final takes. I was mostly just riffing around to get a basic idea going... So it's kinda a muddy wall of clippy sound lol but a cool synthwavy idea none the less.

Any other thoughts or suggestions would be awesome! (Not begging, in case the mods be watching lol)

Yo, this stuff SLAPS

Visiting Urbana and found this at a Meijer for 4/$3. Never heard of it before (apparently it's some Detroit thing)... We were pleasantly surprised. The gfs favorite soda is cream ,so in addition to red pop and creme we got this and a bubble gum, and a blue just to get 5 to be civilly disobedient.

Edit : Sorry! The smell, off the bat is very vanilla/creamy with a little something extra. The taste overall is cream soda with notes of cherry and a hint of a woody, slightly herbal cola.

Described on some website as a tribute to an old Detroit drink made with bourbon and rock candy. It's definitely tasty... I'm not a fan of the aspartamey dry finish a lot of diets and zeros have, but this one isn't that bad.

I hate how I like this one as much as I do... And they missed a prime chance to call it "Screaming Phreedom"

I'm not one to mix political discourse and caffeine, but this Lee Greenwood-lookin' stuff low-key slaps.

Got it on sale at Meijer in Champaign, IL for like $2 because the gf loves Bomb-Pop style energy drinks. We both agree this is one of the better ones out there.

Just a funny story about something that happened a few nights ago I wanted to share and see if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I'm a part-time bartender from Wisconsin that's also a touring musician/audio engineer (as sometimes happens), we were in the Champaign/Urbana, Ill area near the UI campus and a couple of us and our partners stopped at this little local hipstery Irish dive around the corner from the venue that was recommended to us by some fans to play some steel-tip cricket darts and have a couple cheap drinks after the set.

I go up to the bar and ask for "an old fashioned, whiskey, sweet, double tall" as per my usual preference (they had old fashions listed on their specials menu online for $8) and the gentleman asked "now, when you say sweet... Do you mean extra sugar? Because this sounds like a Wisconsin order to me."

We found this so hilarious and told him he hit the needle right on the head. I gave him a 50% tip for the laugh (and he gave me the drink which was nicely done and had some orange zest for $10 because he felt it was more of an experiment than a drink).

Anyone else either; a) guess or have been guessed of their origins by their order? Or b) have to walk a bartender through the making of a pretty standard order? Or any combo of these?
