Got this 15" G4 Aluminum and it has what I believe is "vinegar syndrome". Very upsetting.

Got it off eBay for 150 USD including 65W OEM charger and a sleeve. It's in perfect condition with the screen being an exception. It's the worst on the right side but it's starting to happen in the left too.

Got a Powerbook G4 15" today. Insane deal.

Got the entire bundle (case, screen wipe(?), power adapter, laptop) for 150USD (excluding tax/shipping) off eBay. Seller said it was used for light office work/web browsing. Battery still holds a charge! Also has 128MB of VRAM which was a special order thing. Very happy with the purchase.

my NixOS server

Using docker for all of my various services, Caddy for proxying, Tailscale to access everything. Using Tailscale because I don't want to port forward. This all started because I wanted to self-host Vaultwarden lol. At least this Optiplex was free.

Gentoo on the PS3 & Xbox 360

Recently decided to get Gentoo up and running on my RGH Xbox 360, its been going fairly well, other than learning that it appears the Xenon CPU doesn't fully support Altivec, so I have to disable it because I don't have granular control over the offending instructions. I booted the PS3 to check if the same instructions failed, and only instructions part of a newer version of the PPC ISA were failing. It's likely due to Microsoft stepping in very early and asking IBM if they could use the PPE core for their processor, so it's very possible that those instructions simply weren't implemented yet. My other theory is they weren't included because Microsoft implemented VMX128 instructions, which could replace the missing vector multiply Altivec instructions.
Proof of this here, along with the code used to test: https://paste.gentoo.zip/bMc9vcir

Linux on the Xbox 360

Hi everyone.

I've always been into running Linux on as many PowerPC machines as I possibly can, and my next target after the PS3 was the Xbox 360. I was thinking about Gentoo (as I already daily drive Gentoo on my host) but I cannot get the prebuilt live-cd kernel to boot via XeLL, so I took a more, custom approach.

I don't have a name for this yet, let alone a real goal, but I have a working kernel and a basic init implemented, as well as basic userland and one (1) service, that being Dropbear SSH.

I have no streamlined setup for building everything yet, it's still all manual. But that tooling can be done once I have an actual, fully working system that can be used for more than just running commands in sh.

Output from dmesg from the console, as well as some sh output from SSH.

The code is available here.
