rental property is stressing me out more than my day job

bought a duplex a few years ago thinking it would help me reach FI faster. extra income. tax benefits. all that

but honestly the stress is not worth it. tenants texting me at 10pm about a clogged toilet. finding someone to fix the AC on a sunday. worrying about vacancies. its like having a second full time job that pays minimum wage

i did the math and my returns arent even that great. after repairs and vacancies and my time i might as well have put the money in index funds

but i keep thinking about the potential future income. what if property values keep going up. what if i just need better tenants

anyone else here sold a rental for peace of mind. did you regret it or was it worth it

Anyone tried jet boating tours?

Took a trip recently and ended up on a jet boat tour, not something I planned, honestly. A friend suggested it and I figured why not. I'm usually more of a hiking person but this was something different.

The speed and sharp turns caught me off guard. It was louder than I expected and a lot more physical. We got pretty wet. I didn't hate it.

I found the operator through Thunder Jet Boating and the booking process was straightforward, no complaints there. The guides knew what they were doing and gave some background on the area, which I appreciated.

What I'm wondering is whether this is something people do more than once, or is it more of a onetime novelty thing? Also curious if anyone has compared different operators. Does the quality vary a lot or is the experience pretty much the same regardless of who runs it?

my feet are killing me after every shift and i'm only 3 months in

started at whole foods about 3 months ago. front end, cashier and bagging. lot of standing, lot of walking. i thought it would get better but honestly my feet hurt worse now than week 1.

tried a few pairs. new balance, sketchers, even some weird insoles from amazon. the new balances felt okay for like 2 weeks and now the foam is dead my arches are on fire by hour 5.

has anyone found shoes that actually last on these floors

I relied on autocomplete and AI suggestions for months and now I struggle to write code from scratch. Anyone else?

I want to be honest about something because I think it might help others in the same situation.

I started learning to code about eight months ago and almost immediately leaned heavily on AI tools and IDE autocomplete to get through exercises and small projects. At the time it felt great because I was shipping working code and feeling productive.

The problem showed up when I tried a simple coding challenge without any assistance. I froze. I knew what I wanted the code to do conceptually, but I could not translate that into actual syntax without prompting something to fill it in for me. The logic felt slippery. I could read code fine, but generating it independently felt like a different skill I had never actually practiced.

I have since started doing timed exercises with autocomplete turned off, and it is genuinely uncomfortable, but I can feel the difference after just a few weeks.

My question for people further along than me: do you think there is a meaningful difference between understanding code and being able to produce it from scratch? And for those who caught themselves in a similar pattern, what actually helped you rebuild that muscle?

Not trying to start a debate about AI tools being good or bad. I use them and will keep using them. I just want to close the gap I noticed in my own learning.

Bad experience with heating engineer in London - what should I do next?

I had a heating engineer out last week for my combi boiler in my flat. The pressure was dropping and one radiator was stone cold on the top floor, he bled the system, swapped a valve and charged me £145. Told me it should be sorted. Two days later the pressure dropped again and the heating is still patchy as hell. I'm pretty fed up TBH, i don't want to keep throwing money at cowboys who just do the quick fix and leave. I want to use proper heating engineers in London next time round, an option might be wpj heating as a more reliable local alternative from the reviews i've seen but IDK, still looking for more options. has anyone had similar issues with baxi boilers? mine is about 8 years old. Thinking a full system flush might be needed but the last guy didn't even mention it.

What would you guys do in this situation? any tips on finding reliable heating engineers in London without getting ripped off again? Thanks!!

anyone batch-converting product photos to video for social without losing their mind?

i make handmade soap. business is going okay, got a decent following on tiktok but my content pipeline is basically broken right now.

i have 50 product photos. good ones. i need 50 short clips for tiktok/reels. every tool i've tried wants me to write a full prompt for each video, "cinematic slow zoom on lavender soap bar with soft bokeh background and floating particles", times fifty. that's not a workflow, that's a second job.

not looking for the "just hire a video editor" answer btw, i know that exists. trying to understand if there's a legit batch solution that works for small operators who are running everything solo

if you've built any kind of repeatable content system for physical products curious what's actually working in 2025

My parents moved in with me, leaving their mountain-town house empty. Thinking about turning it into a vacation rental

I live in a small mountain town that's become surprisingly popular with tourists over the last few years. We're surrounded by hiking trails, lakes, and some pretty incredible views, so people come here almost year-round. Summer brings hikers and families, while winter brings people looking to escape the city for a few days

My parents moved in to live with me, resulting in their little place becoming vacant. Initially, we did not know how to deal with that place. Selling was not the best decision at the moment, since the whole idea sounded wasteful, considering the property had been lying vacant

Started to think about the property, it gradually dawned on me that perhaps it might function as a vacation rental. The majority of our clients are families with children, so renting an entire house would be much more convenient for them than booking a hotel room. They would be able to cook, play, and rest in peace without bothering anyone else

I've been looking into what it would take to get the place ready and researching financing options. The house doesn't need a complete overhaul, but there are definitely a few upgrades I'd want to make before putting it on the market

For anyone who's turned a family property into a vacation rental, was it worth it? Did the extra income justify the time and effort, or did it end up being more work than expected?

you're not stuck. you're in the gap between tutorial and building alone

you can follow a video fine. but a blank editor? brain goes white. that's not failure. that's the actual learning moment

stop rewatching. try to build the smallest piece you remember. just the button. just the API call. break it. google every error

that painful hour of being lost? that's where your brain wires things in

2 years into golf in ireland looking for course and trolley tips

i started playing golf two years ago in dublin after a friend dragged me to a driving range and now my handicap is down to eighteen from twenty eight. i practice twice a week at the indoor range in sandyford and play mostly at portmarnock links when i can get a tee time. the irish weather makes every round an adventure but i love the links style courses.

last month i picked up an electric golf trolley from golf gear direct and it has made a huge difference on the hilly fairways here. the battery easily lasts a full eighteen holes even in the rain and the remote control saves my back after a long day. it is not the cheapest but worth every euro for how much easier it is to walk the course.

what are the best value electric trolleys that handle wet irish grass without slipping? any mid handicap friendly courses near dublin with good practice facilities you would recommend for someone playing fifteen rounds a year?

Is anyone else’s cat a "door dash" expert?

I swear, my cat has spent the last week perfecting his timing for the exact second I open the front door. He doesn’t even want to go outside—he just wants to stand on the porch for two seconds, look confused, and then make me chase him back in.

Does anyone have any tricks for "de-programming" this behavior, or am I just destined to live in a state of high-alert every time I check the mail?
