I had bilateral knee replacement last month and boy it sure has been a journey! Recovery is definitely not linear. I’ve had good and bad days and I’ve had good and bad PT sessions. It’s so important to go to all the appointments and try your best while you’re there. It’s also important to let your therapist know when you are having a painful day so they can be a gentle with you. Ice packs are my best friend. I go back to work in August (teacher) and I think I’ll be physically able to tackle work when the time comes. There’s still a long way to go before I reach full recovery, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I’m excited for my future

6 month check in

How it started (374lbs) vs how it’s going (245lbs). My surgery weight was 345. Started at a size US 28, now at a size US 18. Also just had bilateral knee replacement 3 weeks ago… it’s been one hell of a journey!

45 F bilateral knee replacement 6 days ago

Like the saying goes, hindsight is 2020. Having them both at the same time has been absolutely hell and I’m only six days in. I was actually feeling pretty good considering and then yesterday I think I just overdid it because by nighttime, I was in severe pain. The pain meds I take are barely taking the edge off, so I’m supplementing a bit with Tylenol and trying to maintain a positive attitude. I’m not on anti inflammatories since I had gastric bypass six months ago and I am no longer allowed to take NSAIDs moving forward. Today is my first day of physical therapy and I’m dreading it. I had done so well thus far with getting up and walking to the bathroom and taking care of myself as independently as possible. Last night I broke down into tears from the overwhelming pain and frustration. I could really use words of encouragement at this point. Thanks in advance.
