I think animals are just as aware and conscious as humans, it’s just not apparent within a human society.
As someone who’s lived with animals & been around many more, It’s such a weird concept to me that everyone treats animals as non-conscious or less aware. The only evidence that that’s true is based on human standards.
There’s a quote: "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."
Animals are constantly treated and talked about as if they are less aware than humans, but I think it’s only a perceived byproduct of living amongst a species they don’t naturally belong with.
Humans constantly praise modern medicine or technology as what sets us apart from the rest of nature, but again that’s a human standard.
Humans can’t create a neurotoxin that paralyzes its prey. Humans can’t fly or see well in the dark. So by natures standards humans are useless as hell.
Just because different species decided to inhabit ecosystems differently doesn’t inherently make one dumber than the other.
Go into the wild and try to assert your “superior human intellect”. You will find out really quick how ridiculous you look to nature.
All things die & all things present dangers - however animals are smart enough and strong enough to live amongst it all without the need for big daddy government or human-like infrastructure.
I’ll even take it one step further & say that us humans are really the dumb ones for being unable to exist within our own natural habitat/ecosystem without external help. We’re one of the few thousand species out of millions who can’t do that independently.
For every reason I’ve seen people use to justify treating animals as a lesser species, there is a more logical argument against it. Give it your best shot but I’ll be honest and say It’d be incredibly hard to change my mind.
