Throwing the idea around of selling the 2wd shortbox square body i built from the ground up in 2020, to fund a long box 4x4 mild overland/camping rig. my question is: would you buy a mint condition original numbers matching 2 owner truck (nothing special or rare about it) or start with something that’s rusted and needs paint and body plus the build itself?
Hello fellow outlander owners, wondering if someone might be able to help me with an issue ive been having. Car has 145,000 kms on it, recently inherited it from my in-laws, not sure about the service history on it.
Noticed a speed related growling noise that I chalked up to the cheap winter tires that were on there when we got it. You can start to hear it at 40km/h and it gets louder the faster you go, no change when putting it in neutral or AWD-Lock. When I put the summer tires on, the noise was still there so I started doing some digging. Checked for play in the wheel bearings, nothing there but I figured I would do them anyways. Changed wheel bearings, struts, control arm, inner outer tie rods while I was there, and got it aligned after. The noise was still there. When I rotate the drivers side hub, I can feel a "crunchy bearing". I went to replace the cv shaft with a new one, but still felt the same. I removed the cv shaft from the hub, and just spun it in the transmission, and felt the chrunchiness. if the cv shaft is just in the hub it spins smoothly.
The transmission fluid that came out when I pulled the cv shaft looked nice and red, nothing shiny.
The local mitsubishi dealer parts tech was no help at all, I had to argue with him for a good 20 minutes before he realized that there was actually a differential assembly for the front wheel drive.
So in theory when I'm rotating the cv shaft in the transmission, all that should be turning is the spider gears in the front dif. But when you are driving straight ahead, those spider gears shouldnt be turning much at all.
Just wondering if someone else might have some insight, I know im going to have to open it up and see whats going on at some point, but I would rather be prepared with parts before going down that road.
hello, I’m trying to replace the front drivers cv axle on my 2015 outlander, P/N 3815A445. does anyone know why this is a dealer only part, that none of the local part stores don’t even list? are there any alternatives to paying the $1300 Canadian at the dealer?
IMO Cat ET needs an overhaul like they did to SIS. Ive been at a cat dealer as a heavy duty mechanic for about 3 years now, used ET here and there for about 7 years before that. The whole UI and interface is just so old and clunky. Does anyone know if there will be a major update to ET in the coming months/years?
hello, I’m planning to build my own high banker for catching flour gold. I have some 1/4” punch plate in the scrap pile (holes are 1/4” diameter), my question is: can you go too small with your “screen deck” on a high banker? or should I find something that will allow more material through? go with grizly bars instead?
