Jellyfin, RasPi 4, and WiFi enter a bar…

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for advice from people that know more about computer hardware than me. I have a successful Jellyfin server run over Ethernet on an ancient MacMini in my apartment.

I’m going to be moving for three months for work, and will not have an opportunity to hardwire an internet line to that Mac (nor can I bring the machine with me.) At the same time, I’m leaving my current house and will get a new one when I return. So I can’t just leave the server running and remote in.

I’m considering a Raspberry Pi 4, an SSD, and connecting over WiFi at my office or other accommodation. I’m not looking to do anything crazy, just to keep my server running. What considerations should I know about Jellyfin, RasPi 4, and WiFi before I leave? I’m not heartset on the RasPi, but cost is a concern.

Thank you all!!

Should I upgrade?

Hi all!

I have a 2012 Mac Mini with 16GB DDR3 and a 2.3ghz i7 processor.

I saved the life of this computer several months ago by using OpenCore to bring it up to Big Sur. Aka MacOS 11. Unfortunately, everything in the world is using MacOS 12 as the minimum supported system for every program ever. My computer is struggling with basic Homebrew packages because the OS is too old, like come on!

I've been under the impression that my machine is too old to handle MacOS 12 or 13. I'm not a computer genius, I'm an average dude. Do y'all think my specs can handle an upgrade?

Hello, technical geniuses or r/Tailscale!

I'm new to this, and don't exactly know what I'm doing other than a general understanding of LAN networks. So I have a learning curve.

I live in PA, and my brother lives in TX, and he's been letting me use his YouTubeTV login, but it has finally put a location block on me since I'm outside of the household. To reset your status, you have to connect in that wifi network, refresh the app, and hopefully that's it.

If I add my brother's computer to my Tailscale network, how do I trick my phone to be in that device's network? Is this even the right tool for this?

TIA!!
