New rule and call for mods

Hey folks -

I just posted my first rules for this sub. First, no spam. Second, this is NOT a marketplace. The sub seems to have been overrun with people wanting to sell their OMNY cards, and this is a good way for folks to get scammed. I probably removed three of these TODAY.

Second, I'm the only mod here, and that's not a great thing either. I'd like to recruit some more! Feel free to reply to this post with what you think your qualifications would be, and we can go from there!

Independent TA's no longer able to apply Amex CPP

As of September 15th, third-party travel agents will no longer be able to apply Amex Cruise Privileges Program benefits to reservations. This applies to any cruise line and was an Amex decision.

Previously applied benefits (including for future travel) will continue to be honored, but reservations after that date cannot have them applied. They will remain available if booked through Amex Travel (aka Suxpedia).

CruiseNext TripleUp tomorrow!

Tomorrow through August 27, you will be able to apply THREE CruiseNext certificates (the $250 certificates that you purchase on the ship, NOT the ones available if you are not on the ship - that's CruiseFirst) to your balcony or above reservation that's more than 90 days out. This is valid for all sailings that are 3+ days.

Extra Point Sailings for Aug 2026!

Here's the list of sailings that get you one extra point for the month of August! You need to have sailed with NCL at least once, and you can get one extra point per night (2 points per night for Club Balcony Suite or below, and 3 points per night for suites and Haven)

One thing that I've noticed about the list this month is that the repositioning sailings are messed up with regards to ports and itineraries - like the Escape 10/28 sailing has nothing to do with Miami, it's Barcelona to Port Canaveral/Orlando. Caveat emptor on those; I assume that the sailing dates are correct and the ports are wrong.

Well I promised to update on the BOGO air thing once the list came out.....

And the news ain't good. Unless, of course, you're traveling on the Pride of America, in which case you're golden. If you're traveling on literally any other ship, though, RIP BOGO air.

It appears to be available for 78 Pride of America sailings beginning 10/17/2026, which, at a quick glance, covers all dates. No other ship, port, or itinerary is offered.

Preparing for the casino? This might help.

I wanted to prepare for the experience of playing blackjack in the casino on the ship (or anywhere else). There are many strategy trainers online, none of which has all the features that I wanted in one. So what does an infrastructure engineer by day, travel agent by night do? Build one, of course!

Now, I mentioned that I'm an infrastructure engineer. I am by no means a frontend developer, and could barely spell TypeScript before or after writing this (though now I'm slightly better?). The infrastructure deployment (CI pipeline, CloudFront, the parts you don't see) is all me.

The app itself is vibe-coded but with a good engineering mindset behind it. For those who don't know what vibe coding is, it's AI-assisted development. I'd describe the features that I wanted, test, iterate, and tell it how to fix things - for example, the text-to-speech uses a single-owner queue since there could be multiple actions requiring speech at the same time, and they were clobbering each other.

At any rate, I proudly present my contribution: https://blackjack.aws.endash.io is a trainer with text-to-speech, configurable rules (number of decks, S17/H17, DAS, surrender, etc.), stats tracking in browser localStorage, and a decent look, if I do say so myself. No login required, no tracking, no ads.

BOGO Air update

So TA's just got an update that, beginning July 21, BOGO air will only apply to select sailings from select gateways (airports).

No idea yet which, or how many, sailings will be eligible, or from where (though they did tell us where to get the list come July 21, so I'll provide some high-level overview then). So get your BOGO air in by July 20 if you want it!

This actually makes sense to me - BOGO air is one of the most expensive things they've done, and if you're trying to cut costs without really sacrificing guest experience, that seems to be as good a place as any. And who would want to use "take a chance air" anyway?

Atrocity onboard the Aqua

I hesitate to raise this issue, as I recognize that many people cannot relate to the unique hardships faced by those of us not in premium accommodations. However, transparency is important.

While returning to my stateroom from Deck 8 in Bermuda, I encountered a most distressing situation. I summoned an elevator only to be informed by a crew member that it had been designated for “Haven and Suites only” use. The elevator doors then closed before me as the announcement proclaimed, “Priority service enabled.”

Naturally, one understands the importance of preserving the sanctity of the Haven experience. After all, the possibility that a standard balcony guest and a suite guest might briefly occupy the same vertical transportation device could have catastrophic consequences for the carefully curated atmosphere of exclusivity.

That said, I was surprised to learn that an entirely empty elevator could not accommodate one additional passenger. One assumes there are regulations governing these matters, perhaps rooted in concerns about cross-contamination from the lower decks.

I would respectfully suggest that, in the future, Norwegian consider utilizing crew elevators for suite embarkation and debarkation procedures rather than temporarily removing passenger elevators from service. While I support elevated experiences, I had not realized that elevation itself had become a tiered benefit.

Needless to say, I survived the ordeal and was eventually able to locate an alternative elevator. Nevertheless, I remain committed to ensuring that future guests are spared the indignity of unintentional interaction with the yacht-adjacent class system that appears to exist somewhere between Decks 8 and 16.

Thoughts and prayers during this difficult time would be appreciated. I am absolutely crestfallen.

From May 5-7, there will be a CruiseFirst $250 for $500 promotion. Pay $250, get $500 towards your cruise more than 90 days from the purchase date of the CruiseFirst. That's slightly confusing, so here's an example.

If you purchase a CruiseFirst tomorrow, 5/5, it will be good for cruises departing after 8/3/26. It doesn't matter when you book the cruise - it could either be tomorrow or on 8/2/26, that part doesn't matter - it's all about the departure date of the cruise, not how far in advance it's booked.

Effective today, the cost of the FAS drink package (the "gratuities" for the drink package) is increasing from $28.50/pp/day to $32/pp/day for 2-5-day cruises only. This is a net increase of a maximum of $17.50/pp for a 5-day cruise. The price of 6+ day cruises is unchanged at $28.50/pp/day.

Note that this change only applies to prepaid pricing, which is still lower than the price to add the package onboard (currently $45/pp/day, regardless of sailing length)

This is somewhat unsurprising to me, since the short cruises tend to be "booze cruises" and the consumption of liquor increases on them. The cost is still significantly lower than that of any competitor.
