For example, I risk 0.5% of my account per trade (based on my stop loss). When I see a “good” buy setup, I calculate my position size according to the SL and enter the trade.
However, sometimes price moves very fast and my entry gets filled far from my intended level. This makes my stop loss effectively wider than planned. In some cases, price then pulls back, hits my SL, and only after that moves in my original direction 5–10 minutes later. This messes with my psychology—I start thinking my idea was wrong, and I end up missing the move.
I’ve also noticed that some traders split their position into multiple smaller entries at different price levels.
So my questions are:
- How do you handle entries in this situation? Do you prefer a single entry or scaling in?
- If you scale in, how do you manage the position effectively?
- Specifically, if I want TP1 to be 50% of my total position (with RR = 1:1 relative to SL), how would you execute partial take profits when you have multiple entries?
I’m trying to stay disciplined and structured, not randomly averaging down, so I’d really appreciate insights from those who trade this way.
