Pimax Crystal Super – Black screen when trying Pimax Play EVO + SBOYS3. Need help

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get SBOYS3 working with my Pimax Crystal Super using Pimax Play EVO, but so far I haven't been able to make it work. I'm hoping someone here who has successfully set it up can help me figure out what I'm missing.

This is what I did:

  1. Installed Pimax Play EVO.

  2. Downloaded and installed SBOYS3.

  3. In Pimax Play EVO, I enabled Developer Mode.

  4. I enabled the required function/option inside Developer Mode.

  5. I pointed Pimax Play EVO to the SBOYS3 executable.

However, when I try to use it, my Pimax Crystal Super display remains completely black. The headset seems to be running, but I get no image at all inside the headset.

I'm not sure if I'm missing an additional step, if there's a specific order in which Pimax Play EVO and SBOYS3 need to be launched, or if there's another setting that needs to be changed.

Has anyone here successfully used SBOYS3 with Pimax Play EVO and a Crystal Super?

If so, could you please share the correct setup procedure or screenshots of your configuration?

I'd especially like to know:

- Which executable should be selected in Pimax Play EVO?

- Is there a specific launch order?

- Are any additional Developer Mode options required?

- Does anything need to be changed in OpenXR?

- Is there any additional software or runtime required?

- Has anyone else experienced the same black-screen issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've tried following the setup procedure, but I can't get any image in the headset.

Thanks!

Pimax Crystal ($3,000+ USD equivalent) failing after less than 1 month and 4 uses. Disappointing build quality and broken audio.

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my extremely frustrating experience with the Pimax Crystal (50 PPD). This headset cost me nearly R$ 17,000.00 (around $3,000+ USD here in Brazil with taxes), and it is marketed as a premium, high-end device.

With less than a month of ownership and only 4 sessions in my racing/flight simulator, the strap completely detached from the front welding/housing. While trying to put it back in place, the audio cable slipped out of its connector.

I carefully reinserted the cable into its slot, but since then, the audio on that specific side has completely stopped working.

Troubleshooting steps I've already taken: Checked all connections, DP cable, and software/headset reboots. Swapped the audio modules from left to right. The issue stays on the same side of the headset connector, meaning the speaker itself is fine.

My take on the build quality: It’s obvious that the issue lies within the internal wiring or the connector itself. For a product at this price point, the build quality should be flawless. Instead, what we get are extremely thin, fragile wires and brittle connectors.

Pimax markets this as a "modular" headset, but the design makes it incredibly hard to access. The components are so tiny that you can barely manipulate them with your fingers without risking breaking something. This level of fragility is unacceptable for an enthusiast-grade device.

Has anyone else experienced issues with the strap detaching or the audio connectors failing? How was your experience with Pimax Support regarding this?
