I’m not usually one to wade into people’s song/album rankings. So much subjectivity, and we each bring our unique selves to this art. However…
I’ve noticed a song I’ve never rated — Vesuvius — consistently being rated very high. So, I want to expand my appreciation for this song.
Why do you all rate it so high? What do you love about it?
Many posts on here about the missing ducks 🦆?and what Mother Duck did/didn’t do about it, but what I want to know is… what did Mother Duck say to her kids to make them run away from home?
“Five little ducks went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mother duck said "Quack quack quack quack"
But only four little ducks came back”
Did she sow discord among the duck siblings, resulting in an ever-widening family schism? Did she espouse some obnoxious conspiracy theory or political rant that they couldn’t stand to hear anymore? Perhaps she scolded them about hanging out “on the wrong side of the tracks,” as it were? Or did she simply miscalculate a bit of reverse psychology? “Oh, you don’t want to come home? Well, fine, go ahead and stay over the hills and far away.”
And then, given this series of emotional family separations, what on Earth could she say to convince them to come home??
“Well, sad mother duck went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mother duck said "Quack quack quack QUACK!"
And all of the five little duckies came back”
Did she learn to accept her children’s differences and find a way to cohabitate peacefully? Did she relinquish her fringe beliefs in favor of familial harmony? Did she admit her intolerance of others and plead forgiveness? Did she abandon the psychological tricks and state plainly and honestly that she missed them?
We may never know 🤔
