Bargain Box enshitification

TLDR - photo of Bargain boxes $50 bonus meat pack.
300gm low grade mince, six average sausies and 300gms of steak which contains milk??

We’ve been pretty steady Bargain Box customers for 5-6 years. Did some travelling and put things on hold and then teenagers stepped up and started to cook when we got home - so we never re-ordered.
Receive a FREE $50 meat pack with your next order was the offer so we did.
Here’s what we got - 300gms of mince, some generic sausages, and 300gms of steak which contains milk on the ingredients.
Bargain Box - thanks for the memories

CLARIFYING - we didn’t spend $50 - this was the $50 meat pack ‘gifted’ to us as a dangling carrot to order from the company after a hiatus.

Wellington's most notable metalhead, Nathan Jones, has passed away

https://www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/361016696/he-asked-cigarettes-wore-heavy-metal-t-shirts-and-knew-everyone-wellington-mourning-nathan

Really sad to hear this. He used to frequent a lot of gigs I went to in the 90's and after my life around music scene dropped off, I'd still see him wandering around rocking a black tshirt asking for a smoke.

Fun fact - He once was a clown during the old Wellington Xmas parade.

Burger Wellington Returns to Test Your Credit Limit

Bit of an interesting event. I've spoken to a few bars/breweries over the years about this and its one of those situations where your damned if you do, damned if you don't. Traditionally there has been an entrance fee which, from at least the people I've spoke to, pretty much negates any profit from the entire event. Inversely if you don't sign up for it, people are less inclined to visit you, because next door has 'that fancy burger with the weird stuff on it'.

Also a while back Garage Project had a monopoly as the only beer pairing, although I think that's loosened up over the past couple of years. Now, I like GP but they don't have enough variety kicking around at any one point in time to cover the full gamut of flavours on offer from the burger festival and it felt more of an obligation for restaurants to plonk a random GP beer on the table with the burger and say "it goes with this... er.. beer" than actual pairing it with something that genuinely compliments the flavour.

Anyway, time for an overpriced burger or 3.

A gourmet Lolly Cake I made this week.

It's got a biscoff base with brown butter, licourice smallsorts and lemon zest. Then topped with Whittakers gum drop chocolate. Just a casual 9600kcal for the plate. Would you smash this? Can I even still call this Lolly cake?

Whittakers new release Gumdrop block

What do you reckon? Bubblegum white chocolate doesn’t sound like a winner for me
