I-81 Blasting and Delays Exits 143-150

In case you hear loud noises on the Hollins/Cloverdale side of Roanoke over the next 2 months...

Drivers traveling through the I-81 widening project between Exits 143 and 150 in Roanoke and Botetourt counties should expect noise, blasting and temporary traffic delays beginning the week of August 24 and lasting into October.

💥 Blasting

- Tuesday–Thursday

- Approximately 9–11 a.m.

- Expected to continue for about 8 weeks

- Exact days and times will be communicated weekly

- Message boards will alert drivers

🚦 Slow Rolls

Law enforcement will slow or temporarily stop traffic in both directions to provide a safe, traffic-free area during blasting operations.

➡️ Northbound: Slow rolls begin at the Exit 146 on-ramp (Plantation Road)

⬅️ Southbound: Slow rolls begin at the Exit 156 on-ramp (Troutville)

⏱️ Each slow roll is expected to last up to 15 minutes.

Plan ahead, allow extra travel time and use caution through the work zone. 🚗

Someone finally purchased the condemned parking garage near the Amtrak platform

"An undisclosed group purchased the structured parking garage from C.W. Francis and Son, Inc. for $1,400,000 as an investment."

The city should have acquired it when they condemned it.

Partial Solar Eclipse - not really for Roanoke

For those curious, the Wednesday partial solar eclipse for the Roanoke area will be just a very tiny sliver (0.013 Magnitude) around 1:51pm. But it's likely there will be more rain/storms around that time, so chances of seeing anything are not good, and not that much to see if the sky was clear.

Is there a log file (linux.ubuntu)?

Looking at Shutter Encoder as part of getting away from Adobe Media Encoder and CC.

Installed from Shutter Encoder site, download for Ubuntu 64, installed ok (V20.2) .

But tried to convert a known video file to H.254 or H.256 for example, it thinks for a few seconds, beeps and says it's finished (process completed), but no new file created, and it should have taken longer than a few seconds (5 minute video).

Is there a log file, or somewhere to look to try and figure out what is going wrong?

Thank you!

Firmware - Alpha behind Stable version?

Just checked firmware versions, and the Alpha is now behind the Stable (usually it seems to be ahead).

Stable is 2.7.26...

Alpha is 2.7.25...

Target: SEEED_SOLAR_NODE

Currently Installed: 2.7.26.54e0d8d

Update To: Meshtastic Firmware 2.7.25.104df5f Alpha

Is this normal, for the development version (alpha) to be listed as behind the current stable version?

Anyone else seeing weirdness with the guide on Roku?

The side guide on Roku keeps showing content and thumbnails that is a few hours old (3 hours old?) for the initial view (Petticoat Junction when it is Tom and Jerry for example). If you expand the line for the channel, then it shows the correct content for the current time. When you collapse the channel back down to just the single, it goes back to being a few hours old.

It's been doing this for a few weeks now.

All versions seem to be up to date.

Roku Stick Version 119.0 (UI)20260626

Hardware Model HDHR5-2US

Firmware Version 20260326

Zip 24019 if it matters.

But seems to show correctly on the Android version of HDHomeRun Version 20260713, on the sidebar initial view.

Not sure if this is a known bug or not.

Are they looking for someone on Read Mountain?

There has been a drone flying around the Southeast side of Read Mountain (with red light and green flashing navigation lights) and a spotlight that keeps turning on and off, for around 45+ minutes now. Longer than a consumer drone flight time, so most likely a commercial drone.

Almost like they are looking for someone?

Anyone know who/what they are looking for?

Stray Cats will be in Danville in November

For you 80s music fans, the Stray Cats (Brian Setzer) will be at the Caesars Virginia Pantheon in Danville on November 21st. Less than a 2 hour drive depending on traffic and where you live in the area.

Tickets go on sale on July 17th.

https://straycats.com/

Edit:

Ok, so some are saying the Danville venue may not be the best choice.

So there are also Charlotte and Cherokee dates that might be better venues if you don't mind driving further.

Daleville Town Center Grocery (proposed)

The rendering for the proposed Daleville Town Center Grocery certainly looks a lot like a Publix. And guess who the largest client for Fisher Architects is?

But if so it's going to be a long time before it is open, as long as it is taking Publix to slowly build the one in Cave Spring.

Go now countdown - just go already

Is there any way to change the "Go now" countdown to just start the navigation without the countdown?

If I select Home or any other destination, just go. I don't need a countdown, it's pointless. I don't need to press the button to go, I've already selected the destination. I see and know what the routes are, it's going to follow the route I drive. It's not like I'm going to change my mind.

I just want to select a destination and immediately go. No more button pushing or count downs, like it used to be before they added this stupid countdown a while back.

This display was in the front lobby of ROA when I got in late last night and was waiting for baggage, by Colin Taylor - North Cross School.

Unfortunately there was no more information about this, Colin's age/grade, what it was for, or if it won any awards or anything.

But I loved the use of Lego for the old and current versions of the airport and the presentation. I thought I would share for others to see.
